Job Profile
Although this job is not UK based, the successful candidate will be required to attend training in the UK which will require a right to work.
As this job does not fulfil the UK Government minimum criterion for obtaining sponsored migrant worker status we will be unable to apply for sponsorship for anyone not eligible to work in the UK. At interview, all shortlisted candidates are required to bring with them identification documents and original documents that prove they hold or can obtain the right to work in the UK.
Interview/assessment/start date: Interviews 19th – 20th May, successful candidates start at beginning of September.
British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is looking for exceptional personnel (chefs/station support assistants) to join our team based in Antarctica. BAS delivers and enables world-leading interdisciplinary research in the Polar Regions.

You’d be joining the Polar Operations department as a member of Station Operations for Rothera Research Station. Station Operations also includes management functions, such as station leaders and logistics management, as well as science support roles for marine research.
Collectively, you’d help us to deliver essential support functions to keep approximately 150 staff nourished in a clean and comfortable environment, while ensuring cargo operations efficiently resupply the station and waste is managed in accordance with our environmental policies.
Some of your main responsibilities as Station Support Assistant will include:
* Assist in general station administration and domestic duties.
* Cover for the Chef at least twice per week to provide simple meals and snacks for station staff and visitors, including special preparations for those with allergies or intolerances.
* Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and all food storage areas.
* Re-supplying the kitchen stores.
* Maintain and clean domestic facilities as required.
Some of your main responsibilities as Chef include:
* Catering: provide meals and snacks (with vegan and vegetarian options) for station staff and visitors, including special preparations for those with allergies or intolerances.
* Stock control: manage food, equipment and stock rotation.
* Food safety: maintain high standards of personal and kitchen hygiene; maintain food safety records; comply with food allergy controls.
