A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen within The Children’s Air Ambulance (TCAA), as a Airdesk Team Leader. You will lead the TCAA Airdesk team to provide effective and responsive mobilisation of the TCAA aircrafts which provide lifesaving inter-hospital transfers for critically ill patients.
Reporting to the Operations Manager for TCAA, you will primarily be based at Coventry Airport, with occasional travel to other operational sites on a full-time basis (40 hours per week). The role attracts a base salary of £34,509.12 plus an additional £2,040 for unsocial hours (reviewed every 6 months based on service requirements).
The Airdesk Team Leader will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the Airdesk team, providing support and supervision to ensure outstanding service to our patients and NHS clinical partner teams (CPT). Development of the Airdesk team is an essential requirement of the role whilst also supporting and deputising for the Operations Manager during periods of absence. The Airdesk Team Leader will be responsible for carrying out audits, reviewing incidents, managing rotas, providing administrative support to the Operations Manager and other additional tasks.

Job Purpose
The Airdesk Team Leader is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Airdesk team to ensure effective tasking of The Children’s Air Ambulance. Supporting and supervising the Airdesk team to provide outstanding service to our patients and NHS clinical partner teams (CPT). Development of the Airdesk team is an essential requirement of the role whilst also supporting and deputising for the Operations Manager during periods of absence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Oversee the day-to-day operational activities of the TCAA Airdesk, to support responsive mobilisation of TCAA aircraft and promote continuous improvement.
2. Provide effective, positive leadership and support to the Airdesk Coordinators.
3. Support and develop the Airdesk Coordinators, utilising internal and external training opportunities, coaching, etc.
4. Facilitate regular supervision to the Airdesk Coordinators along with annual PDR’s.
5. Facilitate regular team meetings and scenario training.
6. Carry out sickness meetings, grievance meetings and disciplinary meetings with the support of HR, when required.
7. Effectively manage the staffing rota for the Airdesk team.
8. Carry out regular audits on TCAA tasks, recorded calls, feedback, and provide staff with feedback.
9. Provide analytical reports on TCAA tasks.
10. Embed standardisation across the team, whilst supporting staff with any new procedures and changes.
11. Review incident reports relating to the TCAA Airdesk, carry out reviews, feedback and learning.
12. Review and update Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring they are fit for purpose.
13. Monitor Key Performance Indicators within the service to ensure they are met, whilst providing feedback on breaches.
14. Review areas for improvement which will improve service delivery.
15. Proactively manage changing priorities on a daily basis to ensure tasks are completed.
16. Engage and work cohesively with CPT’s and TCAA Crew to enhance service delivery.
17. Communicate effectively and problem solve when problems arise whilst closely liaising with relevant teams.
18. Promote positive Crew Resource Management.
19. Provide operational cover for the Airdesk when required.
20. Complete general administrative tasks as requested by the Operations Manager.
21. Support with base visits, when required.
22. Adhere to Social Media Policy, always representing TCAA professionally.
Person Specification
1. Educated to GCSE level or equivalent in Maths and English, Grade C or above.
2. Full UK manual driving licence.
3. Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
4. Leadership / Management qualification.
5. Experience of managing a team of 5+ staff.
6. Ability to implement and sustain change to improve service delivery, whilst involving a team.
7. Good communication skills with the ability to communicate appropriately and effectively in person, over the phone / virtually, by radio and in writing.
8. Knowledge of The Children’s Air Ambulance, its organisational values, and the service it provides.
9. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to people, listen well, communicate effectively and in a professional manner.
10. Ability to develop effective working relationships with colleagues, NHS teams and external stakeholders.
11. Be able to demonstrate an understanding for the need for confidentiality and how this can be maintained.
12. Ability to create and maintain staff rotas over a 365-day period, ensuring staff have adequate rest periods.
13. Be a positive, motivational, and engaging leader.
14. Be able to work shift patterns relating to the role (including long days, weekends, bank holidays, incidental overtime).
15. Be able to effectively manage and prioritise a changing workload.
