Overview of Role Ergo are currently seeking a Laptop Build Engineer for our client based in Newry, Co. Down. The Laptop Build Engineer will be responsible for the efficient and timely configuration, imaging, and deployment of laptops and related devices across the organisation. This role plays a key part in supporting IT operations, ensuring all company hardware is properly built, secured, and optimised to meet business needs. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, diligence, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-demand environment. There is circa 120 Devices to be imaged and the rolled out to desks. They will be getting SCCM in a position to image these new devices. This will be an on-site role Monday to Friday. Role & Responsibilities: Laptop Imaging and Deployment: Prepare, configure, and image laptops according to company specifications using standardised deployment tools (e.g., SCCM, MDT, or similar). Install and configure operating systems, drivers, software applications, and security updates. Ensure each device meets security standards, including encryption, anti-virus, and firewall settings. Troubleshooting & Support: Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software issues related to laptops, including driver conflicts, hardware malfunctions, and application errors. Collaborate with the IT support team to resolve user issues and ensure smooth laptop deployment. Hardware Maintenance: Conduct quality checks on hardware to ensure functionality and performance. Manage hardware inventories, including laptops, spare parts, and accessories, ensuring adequate stock levels. Coordinate with vendors for warranty claims, repairs, and replacement of defective hardware. Configuration Management: Maintain and update build documentation, including standard operating procedures and configuration guides. Create and update scripts for automating the deployment and setup process when necessary. Security & Compliance: Ensure all laptops are compliant with company security policies, including encryption, anti-virus software, and security patches. Collaborate with the IT security team to support the implementation of any required compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, ISO standards). User Setup & Support: Work closely with HR and other departments to set up new employees with laptops and required access. Provide user support during the deployment process, assisting with device setup and orientation. Key Qualification/Experience required: Degree or Diploma in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience). Or Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A, Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator, or Apple Certified Mac Technician (ACMT) are desirable. 2 years of experience in a similar laptop build or IT support role. Experience working in environments with both Windows and mac-OS. Prior experience in large-scale laptop deployment for corporate or educational environments is preferred.
