Electrochemist l Electrochemical Engineer l Chemical Engineer l Electrochemistry Scientist About the Role We are searching for an enthusiastic and innovative Associate Electrochemist motivated to reverse climate change and help scale our technology. Based in Manchester, UK, you’ll collaborate with our Electrochemical Engineer to optimise performance, and processes, driving scale-up and commercialisation. Key Responsibilities Develop and optimize electrochemical components, enhancing reaction kinetics, efficiency, and long-term stability. Investigate electrolyser architectures, electrode kinetics, and electrolyte composition to improve performance at scale. Design and execute electrochemical experiments, employing techniques such as cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and chronoamperometry. Research and develop cost-effective electrocatalysts and electrode coatings to improve HER/OER activity and durability. Implement process control strategies to ensure reproducible electrochemical performance and efficiency. Lead scale-up studies, translating lab-based electrochemical findings into industrially viable electrolyser systems. Prepare detailed electrochemical reports, presenting kinetic analyses, degradation mechanisms, and performance trends to stakeholders. Manage electrochemical R&D projects, aligning innovation with company objectives. Collaborate with suppliers to ensure the quality and suitability of electrochemical components such as membranes, catalysts, and electrolytes. Stay at the forefront of electrochemical advancements through literature reviews and expert engagement, integrating new insights into R&D strategies. Maintain strict safety protocols, ensuring proper handling of reactive chemicals and electrochemical cell components. Work cross-functionally to troubleshoot and resolve electrochemical performance issues. Promote sustainable innovation in electrochemical energy conversion technologies. Requirements Degree (MSc/PhD preferred) in Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related discipline. 3 years of hands-on experience in water electrolysis, with expertise in electrode reactions, degradation mechanisms, and performance optimization. Deep understanding of electrocatalysis, HER/OER kinetics, and electrochemical reaction engineering. Proficiency in electrochemical characterisation techniques (e.g., CV, EIS, Tafel analysis, polarization curves). Strong background in electrode material chemistry, electrolyte interactions, and long-term stability testing. Experience with lab-scale electrolyser testing, stack design considerations, and industrial process integration. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to correlate electrochemical data to mechanistic insights. Strong communication skills, with the ability to present electrochemical findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
