Role Clearance Type: You must be able to gain and maintain the relevant UK Government clearance in line with the job role (SC).
As Principal Mechanical Engineer, your role will support all Mechanical designs and conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Thermal Analysis (CFD). You will also provide the customers with a direct point of contact whilst liaising with manufacturers and test houses.
This role will include signing off all mechanical designs, ensuring the mechanical team conforms to applicable processes during design, development, and build, and ensuring compliance with all applicable requirements.
You will need to produce, review, and approve technical documentation to support on-time programme delivery whilst organizing all Computer Aided Design (CAD) aspects to perform efficiently and effectively using a variety of CAD applications.
Duties & Responsibilities of the Principal Mechanical Engineer:
1. Mechanical design engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) across the business.
2. Analyse and justify mechanical based designs and component selection.
3. Resolve mechanical issues during hardware design, development, manufacture, integration, and qualification.
4. Ensure baseline and change control activities are carried out within the mechanical team, adhering to Configuration Management (CM) processes.
5. Provide mechanical/electro-mechanical design support on a single or multiple programmes.
6. Provide leadership to the mechanical team to ensure process and requirements are conformed to.
7. Produce, review, and approve mechanical technical documentation (drawings, documents, and Bill of Materials (BOM)).
What you will need to succeed as the Principal Mechanical Engineer:
1. Strong experience in a Mechanical Design Engineering position.
2. Engineering degree in related discipline (or extensive mechanical design experience without a degree).
3. Understanding and working knowledge of mechanical related Defence Standards.
4. Ability to work independently on own initiative, as well as within a collaborative team environment.
5. Ability to work under pressure in a complex and rapidly changing environment.
