The role involves preparation and auditing of accounts for a variety of client types including limited companies, charities, partnerships, and sole traders. The successful candidate will work with clients from a variety of sectors including engineering, leisure and hospitality, solicitors and charities. The role requires attendance at clients’ sites across the North East.
The successful candidate will be primarily based in their Sunderland office.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Preparation of accounts from a variety of clients' systems – Sage, Xero, QuickBooks etc.
2. Preparation of corporation tax computations
3. Actioning queries raised by accounts and tax managers on the accounts and working papers prepared
4. Finalisation of the accounts following client meetings
5. Acting as a point of contact for clients for ad hoc queries
6. Preparation of management accounts and VAT returns
7. Lead audit assignments, which will include planning, fieldwork and completion using standard programmes including specialist audits e.g. SAR and charities
8. Supervise, train and mentor more junior members of staff
The ideal candidate will :
9. Be ACA/ACCA qualified or finalist or be qualified by experience
10. Ideally have a minimum of 4 years’ experience working in an accounting practice
11. Have a strong technical knowledge and be up to date with current legislation
12. Have good training and mentoring skills
13. Have experience of preparation of year end accounts for owner-managed small to medium businesses including sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
14. Have experience in statutory auditing
15. Be able to work to tight deadlines and budgets
16. Be driven and proactive, ensuring that our commitment to providing excellent service levels to our clients is met
17. Have a good knowledge of accounting software packages such as Sage, QuickBooks and Xero would be advantageous
18. Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
19. Have good organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail
20. Be keen to take on additional responsibilities and make recommendations for business and process improvements
21. Ideally be a driver with own car
