Due to service expansion, our supportive, innovative and forward-thinking SLT team at QEHB has the opportunity to welcome Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist which are partially rotational in nature.
All rotational Band 6s benefit from static days within the medicine team and the rotational element across many specialities including stroke, voice, surgery and respiratory care.
We have a large yet close-knit, highly skilled team who contribute to our robust supervision structure. Innovation, participation in research and clinical/professional development are actively encouraged. We have well-established SLT led Videofluoroscopy, FEES and SVR services so opportunities to access these instrumental assessments to help to shape your clinical practice would also be available.

Main duties of the job
This role is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The successful candidate would be part of the Medicine team and benefit from 9-month rotations for the remainder of their working week.
Rotational specialities include Stroke, Head & Neck Cancer, Voice, Respiratory Support Unit, Thoracics and Specialist Surgery.
The role is largely based on acute wards with opportunities for outpatient work through some of the rotations.
We have a large team who share a caseload of diverse patient cohorts so being a team player is essential. Each team has a team leader, peer specialist SLTs, NQP SLTs and SLTAs who are all supported by Clinical Leads, a Professional Lead and a Consultant SLT.
We would welcome a candidate who has experience working with patients in the specialist areas, but our supportive team will be willing to support your development.
Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
1. assessing and managing patients with swallowing and communication disorders
2. service development and audit
3. training of junior colleagues and students
4. working towards utilising specialist assessments such as FEES and tracheostomy
5. working flexibly and thriving in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications
Essential
* Professional knowledge acquired at degree level in Speech and Language Therapy.
* Postgraduate training/short courses relevant to working with adults with acquired communication/swallowing difficulties.
* Membership of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
* Current registration with HCPC.
* Completed RCSLT Level C/EDS Level 5 dysphagia competencies (or above).
* Completed RCSLT NQP competencies.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.

* Advanced competencies such as tracheostomy, FEES or video fluoroscopy.
Experience

* Experience of working within an adult inpatient setting.
