Recruit Central is recruiting for a Mechanical Maintenance Technician based in Peterborough. Our client is looking for someone to join the team who is responsible for the manufacture, implementation, and upgrade of test facility support systems and rigs to assist in engine development and verification. For the first month, you'll be shadowing, then will be integrated into the team to provide support with projects and dynamic workload.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Responding to testbed and other facility breakdowns using fault finding to effectively conduct repairs using a variety of techniques.
2. Cover the maintenance, repair, and installation of new facility equipment.
3. Follow documented standard work procedures/instructions, using various hand power tools and lifting equipment provided.
4. Engage with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team including peers, engineers, and external contractors.
5. Run improvement and root cause investigation projects and present findings through technical presentations to the wider teams and management.
6. Train and support apprentices and co-workers.
7. Balance workload and priorities in line with the business needs.
8. Work to and model health and safety standards to keep individuals, team members, and the public safe.
9. Keep the work area clean, tidy, and safe in line with 5S.
Skills and Experience:
Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
1. Served a full engineering indentured apprenticeship and/or qualified to a minimum of NVQ level 3 or equivalent and/or relevant job-related experience.
2. Must have a thorough knowledge of maintenance processes and tools, machine shop operations, equipment, and processes plus familiarity with materials and quality objectives.
3. Ability to read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical drawings and schematics.
Candidates may have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
1. Fault finding and diagnostics on hydraulic systems or fuel systems.
2. Laser alignment of rotating equipment.
The Successful Candidate may also be a subject matter expert in one of the following fields:
Mechanical Maintenance: Responding to all aspects of mechanical maintenance including breakdowns, planned works, and total preventative maintenance, working individually and among a diverse team.
Pneumatics and Hydraulics: Ability to respond to requests to install, fault diagnose, and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including understanding and the use of schematic and detailed circuit drawings.
Pipe Fitting: Ability to provide the installation of all service systems within G.E.D. (with the exception of live steam), including but not limited to; compressed air, process water, chilled water, low pressure hot water, diesel fuel, and all associated components.
This role is purely on-site, with 90% hands-on work and 10% admin (e.g., Teams meetings).
37 hours a week - Monday to Friday 07:30 - 16:15 with every other Friday off.
