About the School
Academics are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to support a Year 5 child with ADHD at a mainstream primary school in the heart of Croydon.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher to support a Year 5 student with ADHD. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing tailored one-to-one and small group support, ensuring the student can access the curriculum effectively and remain engaged in classroom activities. You will also help to foster a positive learning environment and promote emotional well-being.
Key Responsibilities
* Support a Year 5 child with ADHD in accessing their learning, including providing individualized strategies to help with concentration, organization, and social interaction.
* Assist with managing the student's behavior, ensuring they are able to focus and participate fully in lessons.
* Work closely with the class teacher to monitor progress and adapt support as required.
* Provide emotional support and encouragement, helping the student to build confidence and self-esteem.
* Assist with classroom activities and group work, ensuring the student is fully included.
* Help with the student's organization of tasks, time management, and independent learning where possible.
* Liaise with parents, teachers, and external agencies to provide the best support for the student.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
* A genuine interest in supporting children with special educational needs, particularly ADHD.
* Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with children.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills.
* An understanding of how to implement individualized support strategies and adapt teaching approaches.
* A positive attitude and a willingness to learn and grow within the role.
Desirable
* Previous experience supporting children with ADHD.
* Experience in a school setting, particularly working with primary-aged children.
