Job Purpose:
To support the Occupational Health team in delivering high-quality health services by conducting health surveillance, mental health support and guidance, assisting with clinical assessments, and promoting workplace wellbeing. The Occupational Health Technician will play a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all employees, contributing to Unilever’s commitment to a safe and healthy working environment.
Job Summary:
Health Surveillance and Monitoring
1. Conduct routine health surveillance assessments, including audiometry, spirometry, vision screening, and skin assessments, in accordance with statutory requirements and best practices.
2. Support the Occupational Health team with pre-placement, periodic, and exit medicals, ensuring accurate data collection and reporting.
3. Monitor employees with chronic conditions by scheduling and conducting regular health checks, ensuring ongoing support and care.
4. Assist in the coordination and execution of risk-based medical surveillance programs, identifying any potential health issues early.
Clinical Support
1. Provide first aid and emergency response during working hours, delivering prompt and effective care for minor injuries or illnesses.
2. Assist Occupational Health Nurses and Physicians in clinical procedures, such as phlebotomy, vaccination administration, and other health assessments as needed.
3. Ensure accurate and up-to-date medical records are maintained for all employees, safeguarding confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.
Workplace Health Promotion
1. Assist in the planning and delivery of health promotion activities, such as wellness campaigns, vaccination drives, and mental health initiatives.
2. Educate employees on health-related topics, such as healthy lifestyle choices, ergonomics, and preventative measures, through group sessions or one-on-one interactions.
3. Support ergonomic assessments and provide advice on improving workstation setups to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders.
Administration and Reporting
1. Maintain and manage the inventory of medical supplies, ensuring all necessary equipment is available and in good working order.
2. Prepare and submit monthly reports on health surveillance activities, stock levels, and other relevant metrics to the Occupational Health Manager.
3. Participate in the development and review of occupational health policies, procedures, and risk assessments to ensure a safe working environment.
Collaboration and Communication
1. Liaise with employees, management, and external service providers to arrange health assessments, treatments, and referrals as required.
2. Communicate findings from health surveillance and risk assessments to the Occupational Health team, providing data-driven insights to inform decision-making.
3. Represent the Occupational Health Technician role in meetings, providing feedback and updates on health monitoring and employee wellbeing.
Key Requirements:
1. Qualifications: Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health, Health Surveillance, or relevant field. Additional qualifications in audiometry, spirometry, or phlebotomy are desirable.
2. Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an occupational health or healthcare setting. Experience in a corporate or industrial environment is advantageous.
3. Skills: Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications.
4. Professional Development: Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to relevant health and safety regulations.
5. Other Requirements: A valid driver’s license is desirable for travel between sites.
