Whilst the role will be based primarily at our Eye Centre at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, we provide services at our other hospital sites Dewsbury and District Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary. Most people do work from two sites. If they have to travel between sites during the day then that is reflected in the job plan as travel. The department provides secretarial support and office accommodation in the Eye Centre. The department has the support of optometrists, orthoptists, specialist nurses, and eye clinic liaison officers.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the post will include:
1. Supporting the provision of General Ophthalmology with a subspecialty interest in Medical Retina and Uveitis.
2. Research lead for the department.
3. Delivery of outpatient clinics and day case surgery.
4. Workload includes seeing about 12 patients in Face to Face clinic and 24 patients in Virtual clinic. In theatre, if Cataract expected to do about 7 cases.
5. Urgent and Emergency Care duties including out-of-hours on-call schedules will take due account of the provisions of working time regulations and safe working.
6. On-call duties are currently shared with 8 other colleagues on a 1:8.5 rota, currently assessed as 0.89 PA.
7. 1.5 Core Supporting Professional Activities will be offered to the successful candidate for which appropriate objectives will be agreed in accordance with the Trust Framework and national Terms and Conditions of Service with additional 0.5 PA for extra roles like Lead for service etc.

Qualifications

* Medical Degree from recognised medical school.
* FRCOphth / FRCS or equivalent.

* Fellowship in Medical Retina and Uveitis.

* Teaching qualification / awards.
GMC Registration
Essential
* Please state full GMC number.
* Full GMC Registration with licence to practise.
* Inclusion on the GMC Specialist register.
Experience
Essential
* Wide experience in management of Medical Retina and Uveitis patients in outpatients, Lasers and theatre.
Desirable
* Ophthalmology fellowship or equivalent experience in Medical Retina and Uveitis.
* Specific educational interests and evidence of educational ideas or project work.
