Job Role: Waste Manager Location: Antrim and surrounding areas Hours: Monday- Friday 9-5pm Pay rate: £25.79 per hour Duration: 6 MONTH MIN Your role: As a Waste Manager for Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council you will be responsible for Waste Collection Operations including, but not limited to, waste collections services, street cleansing, household recycling centres, & bin deliveries. You will provide dynamic, effective and innovative leadership by- taking day to day responsibility for the management, development and operation of Council's waste operations including staff, facilities, budget and equipment; ensuring that all waste operations within the post-holder's responsibility are managed to a consistently high standard; identifying and analysing trends and opportunities that contribute to successful change and continuous improvement. You will be based primarily at the Environmental Services Depot, Antrim but may be required to work across other Waste Management sites in the borough so a full current driving licence or, if a disability prevents driving, access to a suitable form of transport to is required enable the duties of the post to be carried out in full. You may need to flexible from time to time and work evenings and occasional weekends. Your responsibilities: 1 Support, advise and provide professional guidance to the Head of Waste Operations in all matters relevant to the work of the service. 2 Manage, develop, implement and review strategic policies, performance improvement plans, risk registers and business plans for the Waste Operations service. 3 Manage, develop and support effective and efficient teams within Council's Waste Operations service. 4 Review, plan and manage the maintenance, replacement and/or development programme for relevant facilities and equipment, taking into account budgetary and customer requirements. 5 Manage and monitor financial and operational aspects of the Waste Operations service reporting regularly on performance to the Head of Waste Operations and assist the annual estimates process for the service. 6 Oversee the operation and management of waste collections and street cleansing services, liaising with relevant Departmental partners to achieve optimum service provision. 7 Oversee review and implement the Winter Operations Plan 8 Review, identify and make recommendations with regard to the training needs of the Section and implement any action identified. 9 Respond appropriately to all grievance and disciplinary matters relating to all staff directly managed, initiating action in consultation with the Human Resource Manager as required. 10 Monitor sickness absence of staff within the Waste Operations and ensure implementation of the Council's Managing Attendance Policy. 11 Produce management information and committee reports and attend Committee and Council meetings as required by the Head of Waste Operations. 12 Through regular customer engagement ensure effective and efficient service delivery. 13 Proactively contribute to Council's community planning process. 14 Deputise for the Head of Waste Operations on relevant matters. 15 Take an innovative approach to the service, ensuring that industry standards are met and exceeded. 16 Carry out annual performance reviews with direct reports ensuring that all staff are adequately trained, motivated and developed to discharge their technical, management and operational responsibilities. 17 Manage, develop and deliver improvement plans for the Council's recycling centres to ensure that the facilities are operating to the highest service levels. 18 To be available from time to time to carry out duties outside of normal office hours and in addition to basic contracted hours. Such additional hours will be remunerated in line with Council's approved policies at the time. You will have: - Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject (Environmental Management) [Consideration maybe given to those who do not hold the above qualifications but who can demonstrate 5 years' experience as set out below] - A minimum of 3 years' experience in waste operations to include: a) Managing operational employees, b) Managing a budget, c) Managing facilities and equipment, d) Developing improvement plans, e) Negotiation with trade unions, staff, external partners, and community representatives - Experience in managing performance - Strong organisational skills - Ability to prioritise and manage own work and the work of others - Ability to work to strict deadlines - Ability to liaise effectively with all levels of staff and management - Good working knowledge and understanding of Waste Management operations - Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office To apply for this role, please complete the form below by filling out your name and contact details, and attaching your CV.
