Vacancy - Marine Pilot Are you excited by the opportunity to pilot a variety of vessel types and sizes within the Great Yarmouth Pilotage District? Are you an experienced Deck Officer with extensive ship handling experience? We are seeking a Marine Pilot to join our team at the Port of Great Yarmouth and help us keep the world moving Your role You will facilitate the safe and efficient conduct of navigation of vessels within the Great Yarmouth Pilotage District, working within a duty roster and providing a 24h service 365 days of the year. Piloting all types and sizes of vessels, with and without the use of tugs, you will adhere to the Marine Management Safe Systems of Work and Standard Operating Procedures. Ensuring compliance with the Great Yarmouth Pilotage Directions you will provide expert local knowledge to ensure the safe passage of ships as they enter, depart, or shift within the port facility, handling of all class of ships through congested tidal waters in sometimes challenging Southern North Sea conditions. You will prepare and agree passage plans to allow vessels to perform their arrival, berthing and departure safely. Working as part of an experienced team to ensure safety and operational requirements are met. Following completion of a comprehensive and rigorous training program, you will work alongside other experienced Pilots with the ability to pilot all vessels calling within the port. As part of the larger Marine team you will support on occasion with consultations and ad-hoc projects, and participate in safety meetings and navigational and operational risk assessment processes. What you'll bring Piloting experience is advantageous but not essential. However, serving as a senior officer on board with ship handling experience is crucial. Varied ship-type experience and/or holding a PEC would also be beneficial. You must possess a valid ENG1 Seafarer Medical Certificate (or equivalent) and complete a pre-employment company assessment, alongside having an excellent understanding of ship manoeuvrability, handling, and berthing. With outstanding communication skills, you will be capable of building strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, as well as demonstrating a flexible approach when working in challenging environments. You should be proactive and have experience in making quick and informed decisions, even in demanding situations. A full, valid driving licence is required for this role. Who are we?
