Job overview
These are exciting times for an enthusiastic, motivated and forward-thinking Pharmacy Technician to help drive the technical services department at Weston Park Hospital. The department currently houses 4 pharmaceutical isolators with another 4 due imminently within the cutting-edge clinical trial/A.T.M.P. (advanced therapy medicinal product) facility being developed within Weston Park.
Prospective candidates have a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of technical services in a large teaching hospital environment. As an integral member of this pharmacy team, you will deliver a high-quality service for patients and staff of this Trust.
To promote team working within the Pharmacy Department and Aseptic Services team. Responsible for coordinating staffing arrangements for the Aseptic Service and liaising with other senior and Principal technicians to ensure appropriate skill mix and technical staff allocation throughout the department.
Main duties of the job
1. Responsible for supporting the Principal Technicians in the day-to-day management and development of the Chemotherapy Service within STH, in accordance with departmental strategic, capacity and business plans.
2. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring efficient workflow and safe systems of work are maintained within the Weston Park Aseptic suite as defined under statutory legislation, COSHH, and Professional Standards in their area of responsibility.
3. To provide support in aseptic preparation including chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition and civas from point of prescription receipt, and implementing developments within the service to meet the needs of the patient.
4. To ensure all required monitoring, cleaning, documentation, and any other regulatory requirements are completed.
5. To be aware and always follow all departmental operating procedures and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidance.
6. To aseptically prepare products within the aseptic facilities including accurately measuring volumes, following departmental procedures.
7. To work flexibly between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00 as part of the Aseptic team to provide and maintain a comprehensive pharmaceutical service.

Education and Qualifications
* (Band 4 & 5) NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent level
* (Band 4) Buttercups level 2 qualification in Pharmacy or SMPO qualification
* (Band 4) SMT or other relevant science-related qualification to progress to Band 5
Experience
* (Band 5) Knowledge of safe dispensing and aseptic practices
* (Band 5) Experience of working in a hospital Pharmacy Aseptic department
* (Band 4) Experience including compounding of aseptic products in a GMP facility.
