The successful candidate would primarily operate across the Scottish market, although there will be opportunities to work on projects in the North of England, Northern Ireland, and further afield across the UK/ globally.
Knowledge in policy, urban regeneration, master planning, and the management of planning projects would be preferable, in addition to stakeholder and community consultation and engagement.
Based in Scotland (preferably Arup’s Glasgow office), but working as part of our ‘North’ planning team covering Scotland, North-East and Northern Ireland on a 12-month fixed-term full-time basis (opportunity to become permanent), you will work with and co-ordinate multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful outcomes for our projects and lead on small to medium-sized projects and take a lead role on specific elements of larger and complex schemes.
You will assist the team in business development activities, such as preparation of expressions of interest and proposals, promotional and capability materials along with delegating to junior members of the team.
You should have an excellent working knowledge of planning legislation, associated circulars, guidance, and regulation (ideally across Scotland), and must be a chartered town planner (a Member of the RTPI) or working towards chartership. You will be confident in communicating and presenting work to internal and external audiences and show passion for developing your own skills and career, as well as those of the wider team. Proven ability in the delivery of high-quality written outputs is also expected.
We are seeking the following skills and knowledge:
* Degree level qualification in a Town Planning related field and Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI) / working towards chartership;
* Skill in the preparation and submission of planning applications across Scotland and/or England/Northern Ireland/Wales;
* Previous exposure working in the public and/or private sector;
* Managing small assignments/tasks within wider team and/or sub-consultant management;
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Please note: This role may require you to undertake short-term travel in the UK and overseas when such opportunity arises and when it is safe to do so. Although this is an initial 12-month contract, there may be an opportunity to transfer into a permanent role for the right person.
