The post holder will report to the Head of Business Intelligence and sits as a key member of the management team within Performance & Informatics (P&I). As such, the postholder will work across the P&I portfolio but will also work alongside Trust colleagues within Clinical Groups and Specialties, Workforce, Finance, Strategy & Transformation.

The post holder will join the Performance & Informatics (P&I) department, the largest of our corporate services. The P&I portfolio includes Business Intelligence & Informatics, Corporate Performance, Information Systems Development, Analytical Development, Clinical Coding, Data Quality, Patient Access, and Cancer Services.
The post holder will directly manage a team of analysts to lead improvements in data and BI around Elective, Cancer, and Urgent & Emergency Care throughout the Trust, while also supporting the Trust’s Clinical Groups and Specialties with their needs.
This senior role within P&I requires working independently to provide high-level analysis, systems development, and investigation. The successful candidate must have the skills to interpret, articulate, and create business intelligence and insights to inform and drive decision-making.

The post holder will be accountable for the delivery of BI & Informatics and will be supported by a team of analysts.
The post holder will ensure that high quality data and intelligence is provided, interpreted and investigated to support service planning, management, delivery and transformation through designated Trust programmes. The postholder will be responsible for the production of appropriate forecasting and modelling which will enable the Trust to respond accordingly to the patients and communities we serve. They will also be responsible for ensuring the Trust reporting supports the national requirements, including submissions of statutory/NHS returns ensuring data is both accurate and timely.
P&I are undertaking new opportunities at a national level across areas such as health inequality, waiting list management and system wide working. Most notably, working innovatively to develop the ‘Health Equity and the Right to Treatment’ (HEARTT) tool which culminated in being awarded the ‘Innovation and Improvement in Reducing Healthcare Inequalities Award 2022’ at the prestigious Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards. In addition, P&I were also awarded the ‘Best Healthcare Analytics Award 2024’ for work undertaken across process mining and generative AI within both Outpatients and Theatres. International success has also recently been recognised with P&I winning ‘Top Internal AI Implementation’ from the 2025 Tech Innovation Cube Awards.
1. Be accountable for Trust wide and programme information to support operational colleagues in the management and development or transformation of their services.
2. Carry out complex analysis to support Trust staff at all levels, offering guidance and interpretation to ensure the analysis is both appropriate and useful. Producing comparisons, trends, summary and narrative and investigating any areas requiring further investigation, ensuring analysis methodology is documented and a systematic approach is taken.
3. Be accountable for production of information in support of the Trust in an accurate and timely manner.
4. Provide advice and specialist knowledge to define Trust wide and external information requirements and establishing appropriate reporting mechanisms.
5. Utilise experience, knowledge, judgement and skills to develop and improve information reporting systems for operational and strategic monitoring of patient information in line with National data requirements and definitions. This will be achieved using a variety of reporting tools and a combination of advanced procedures in MS Excel and SQL Server.
6. Take an information lead in the implementation of new national requirements and management of associated reporting. Ensure that colleagues throughout the Trust are aware of the relevant guidance.
7. Be accountable for the design, development and implementation of new data collection systems to process and deliver data and information as required.
8. Be accountable for the provision of analysis to support external agencies.
9. Take a proactive role in the dissemination of waiting list guidance, offering expertise and support to colleagues as required.
10. Be accountable for the production of appropriate forecasting using modelling and statistical techniques involving a variety of data currencies such as waiting lists, demographics and activity, including the production of detailed monthly profiles and plans, updating and refining analytical models as required.
