Job description
Within Deals, the Major Projects Advisory (MPA) team is helping to solve some of the biggest challenges in infrastructure and public services, making an impact on things that affect the wellbeing and prosperity of everyone in the UK. The work is varied and complex, and no one else does it quite like we do.
We're passionate about:
1. Change and reform in the public sector
2. The future of transport and mobility
3. Decarbonisation and sustainability
We work with clients in:
1. Central Government
2. Transport (roads, rail and aviation)
3. Energy and Utilities (electricity, nuclear, water)
We focus on:
1. Capital projects and programmes
2. Complex portfolios
3. Major transformations
4. Progressive assurance
This role sits specifically in the Technology and Sustainability in Infrastructure (TSI), cluster of MPA. In TSI, we help our clients to deliver and operate their assets more efficiently and effectively by utilising the very best of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and construction innovation. The team is at the forefront of shaping some of the UK's largest and most complex construction & infrastructure programmes.
Applicants should have a particular interest in transformation and developing highly innovative strategies that enable our clients to achieve their objectives.
On the back of continuing growth and success in the market, we're investing in our team and boosting our numbers - which means you'll be joining one of the fastest growing areas of the firm at a time of real significance.
About the role
As a team, we take on a wide range of assignments, requiring entrepreneurial spirit and intellectual curiosity.
Our Executives play a really important part of making things happen for our clients, and candidates need a foundation of professional experience - ideally gained from infrastructure-related projects and programmes, but we'll happily consider candidates with a developing track record in other relevant fields.
As a key part of the high performing team, you'll be applying your knowledge and skills every day bringing solutions to life.
Typically, your day-to-day involves:
1. Supporting the delivery of senior client-facing work within specialist areas, embedding a strong human / end user focus - which includes producing high-quality outputs with excellent attention to detail
2. Translating complex themes into simple to understand presentations
3. Thinking through solutions and challenging the team (including the extended client team), to develop new approaches
4. Supporting business development activities - helping to identify potential opportunities for new assignments and assisting with bids and proposals
5. Keeping up to date with developments affecting your work, identifying opportunities for thought leadership and assisting with the development of KPMG's opinion in your specific technical area
6. Understanding the broader suite of services offered by KPMG and identifying opportunities to collaborate and design unique solutions for our clients
7. Coaching and mentoring your colleagues - both up and down
8. Being a role model and living our values
The sort of people we're looking for
There is no one-size fits all in MPA; we're as diverse as the world around us. We hand pick our people because they're our most important asset - and people pick us because we really mean that.
For this entry-level opportunity, we're looking for candidates with at least 2 years' professional experience - primarily built around infrastructure-related projects and programmes.
Your track record should evidence:
1. Experience of working in an advisory or delivery capacity - either for another consultancy or in a client-side role in industry
2. Experience of applying project, programme and/or portfolio management - and a passion for the discipline
3. Relevant experience or an interest in Construction Innovation and Digital
4. Analytical and problem-solving skills - including working with numerical data
5. An ability to build and maintain great relationships
6. Confident communication and presentation skills
7. Relevant experience using different software / applications (Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Oracle P6, Slack, Clarizen)
8. Relevant professional certification (APM PMQ/PPQ/ChPP; MoP; MSP; PRINCE2)
