Your role
You will be responsible for setting priorities, agreeing targets, and monitoring performance of all activities related to the management of statutory, and mandatory tasks, associated with Asbestos (Domain). You will act as the DWP Estates subject matter expert, leading this domain and allocating responsibilities to the wider Asset Management team, supplier management chain, and other DWP Estates operational teams.
You will be accountable for outcomes in the management of all aspects related to Asbestos. You will provide technical and compliance expertise to ensure the DWP Estate portfolio is managed and controlled, safe and compliant.
You will have a detailed understanding of best practice and legal requirements regarding Asbestos compliance, and management, within commercial buildings. Using collaboration and a practical approach to make improvements and innovations.
Ultimately, to ensure DWP Estates have all the information and data required to make valued and insightful decisions, and assurance, of a compliant and managed Estate with regards to Asbestos management. You will use your strong influencing skills to broker solutions across organisational boundaries.
Essential Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Extensive experience at managerial level of managing Asbestos across a large and diverse estate portfolio and working collaboratively with specialist consultants managing asbestos, assurance, and oversight functions
Expert knowledge in subject matter for legislative and mandatory standards for Asbestos management and extensive experience of holding Responsible Person / subject matter expert status for Asbestos management
Extensive & Demonstratable Health & Safety experience in a property arena
Extensive & Demonstratable Contract Management of Asbestos Supply Chain/Contractors and of working with outsourced teams (and specialist contractors) in delivering works associated with asbestos management compliance.
Fully experienced and qualified in supporting delivery of a high performing asbestos management function for a large premises portfolio.
Experience of presenting, analysing and interpretation asbestos data.
Knowledge of asbestos acceptance criteria and developing non-conformance rectification plans.
Excellent communication and customer centric skills with proven experience of being a great team leader who offers support to the wider business.
Experience of managing audit processes with high level of organisational skills, being able to balance competing priorities to meet strict deadlines and schedules.
Extensive experience in supporting teams and being the SME in respect of asbestos management.
Qualifications/professional memberships
Essential
An accredited Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in HVAC Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering, or equivalent
Hold BOHS P402 Building Surveys and Bulk Sampling for Asbestos Qualification (or equivalent)
Hold BOHS P405 Management of Asbestos in Buildings (or equivalent)
NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Certificate in Construction
