Role Purpose: As the Head of Engineering, you will lead the creation and management of a new Digital Engineering Centre of Excellence (CoE). This is a unique opportunity to shape the engineering and testing operating model for the companies digital priorities. You will drive agility, quality, and cost-effective delivery through external partnerships while building robust in-house capabilities. Reporting to the Director of Technology, you will play a critical role in delivering a cohesive technology strategy aligned with their corporate vision. This position offers the chance to lead transformative change, modernise an IT function, and elevate their digital capabilities to set new industry standards. Why This Role Would Be Suitable: You have in depth technical knowledge of modern software engineering practices and tools (.NET, Java, Kotlin, and Cloud platforms) alongside expertise in security, integrations, and digital solutions, including CMS, native apps, APIs, and customer data platforms. You have a passion for technology modernisation and excellence and proven ability to drive cultural change and establish high-performing teams. You have worked on customer facing retail applications (mobile/web) Key Responsibilities summarised: Establish and Lead the Engineering CoE Build capabilities in Digital and Core IT Development, Testing, Release, and Environment Management. Integrate existing teams focused on Cloud, Infrastructure, Networks, and Security. Define and Implement Strategies Develop engineering models, standards, and processes aligned with industry best practices. Shape their IT Infrastructure roadmap and oversee its successful implementation. Drive Operational Excellence Ensure high performance, availability, and resilience across all Cloud and On-Premise infrastructures. Establish a robust Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline. Deliver high-quality software solutions through in-house and external resources. Leadership and Collaboration Line manage key team leaders, including Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Engineering, and Digital Test Managers. Foster strong relationships with internal teams and external partners to deliver quality outcomes. Champion cultural and operational change to maximize team effectiveness and engagement. Governance and Measurement Monitor and report engineering performance, ensuring alignment with compliance and business objectives.
