About The Role
We are currently looking for a Materials Engineer / Senior Materials Engineer to work within our Advanced Materials Characterisation and Testing department. This is an exciting role for an experienced engineer with a strong background in fatigue and fracture or an established engineer looking to become an expert in the field of fatigue and fracture.
You will be responsible for a range of activities relating to fatigue testing, analysis and method development. You will join our dedicated team and support both our commercial and R&D activities by leading projects, providing technical guidance on materials science and assisting with the development of new fatigue testing and analysis methods. This role is based at our site in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, UK, with the option of a hybrid working pattern. Flexibility to work from home 2 days a week allows us to consider top candidates based within the UK.
What You Will Be Doing
1. Conducting fatigue & fracture analyses of test data combined with technical reporting using established processes.
2. Supporting commercial testing projects by leading discussions with customers, defining test requirements, producing quotations, and internal documentation.
3. Participating in the research, development and implementation of testing and analysis methods for fatigue and fracture, including conducting hands-on experiments using mechanical test rigs.
4. Generating bespoke analysis methods through developing mathematical models and using tools such as Python for novel test data.
5. Providing technical expertise on material science and failure analysis to the department, the wider company and customers.
6. Building relationships with academic and industrial partners through collaborative research projects.
7. Promoting and championing the company’s products through technical publications, seminars, customer meetings and training courses.
8. Supporting the department in all activities relating to quality assurance, health and safety and all associated audits.
9. Reporting on trends and opportunities in the market relating to materials development and implementation that might influence HBK's position.
What You Bring
1. PhD in Materials Science or an Engineering subject with a strong link to materials and/or fatigue, or hold a relevant engineering/science degree (BSc, BEng, MSc, MEng) + significant industry experience.
2. Professional recognition with a relevant professional body - attained or working towards Chartered status is preferred.
3. Proven documented experience within a materials engineering role.
4. Detailed knowledge and practical experience of Mechanical, Metallurgical, and Metallographic testing equipment.
5. Expertise in materials and processes for both metallics and non-metallics.
6. Proficiency in MS Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
8. Programming skills (such as Python) would be desirable but not essential.
