As the Service Inspector & Test Engineer, the role will involve working across all departments within UK Electrical while also performing ongoing audits of a manufacturer's quality control programs and ensuring the required manufacturing and production line testing is being conducted and recorded as prescribed in their initial Test Report for a given product.
Required skills and experience:
Essential:
1. Full UK Driver's licence and willingness to travel
2. Relevant Electrical/Electronic formal qualifications or degree
3. Good IT skills, experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
4. Experience of working in accordance with a Quality Management System
5. Attention to detail and ability to navigate/interpret ambiguity of standards
6. Experience in manufacturing (end of line testing or similar)
7. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and other members of the team
Desirable:
1. Experience of ISO 17025 and certification would be desirable but not essential
2. Proficiency with laboratory tools (multi-meters, oscilloscopes, etc.)
3. Background in one of the following: product safety testing, energy efficiency testing
4. Knowledge and experience of certification schemes
5. Experience of generating test reports for customers and certification purposes
6. Experience with data acquisition and analyser tools, AC/DC simulators, RLC load bank and communication interfaces
7. Previous knowledge of test standards EN 62087, EN 62301, EN 50564, EN 50563, EN 50643 or international equivalents
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
You will be involved in the measurement of energy use of consumer electronic products to established standards to support eco-design regulations. This is in line with Intertek's journey to 'Net Zero', so an appreciation of the impact that consumer electronics energy use has on global warming, and the desire to address it would be key to your success in this role.
Key activities:
1. Provide ongoing support and guidance on technical issues, test procedures, and standards interpretations
2. Provide quotes for projects and products
3. Research new standards, technologies, and trends in standards
4. Support accreditation activities such as audit follow-up and corrective actions
5. Manage assigned tasks within Intertek guidelines
6. Assess technical documentation and processes against standard requirements
7. Complete preliminary design reviews (PDR) both on and off site
8. Develop, set up, and follow established test plans in accordance with standards
9. Provide project updates to customers, as well as management
10. Attend customer calls and meetings
11. Schedule and conduct inspections at various manufacturers' premises (mainly UK but some internationally) - Training will be provided
12. Inspect and audit products and production lines - Training will be provided
13. Involvement in UKAS and similar accreditor audits
14. Once proficient in audit inspections - Training of other inspectors as required
