Job Details This is a great opportunity to work on a brand new project in Brighton for 18 months starting from January 2025. Key Responsibilities: Load Slinging and Securing: Attach slings, chains, or ropes to loads to prepare them for lifting operations. Ensure that loads are correctly and securely slung to prevent accidents or damage. Inspect lifting equipment and accessories for defects or damage before use. Signalling Crane Operators: Communicate with crane operators via hand signals or radio, providing clear and precise instructions to ensure safe lifting and movement of loads. Guide the operator during load lifting, lowering, and positioning operations, ensuring the load is placed safely and accurately. Lifting Operations Coordination: Work closely with crane operators, riggers, and site supervisors to plan and execute lifting operations. Assess the load and ground conditions to determine the safest method for lifting and transporting materials. Ensure the lifting zone is clear and safe for all personnel, marking off hazardous areas as necessary. Health and Safety Compliance: Adhere to all site health and safety regulations, including wearing appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Ensure lifting operations are performed in compliance with UK regulations such as LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) and PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations). Report any unsafe practices, faulty equipment, or incidents to the site supervisor. Load Calculation and Risk Assessment: Assess the weight and stability of loads to determine if they can be safely lifted. Conduct risk assessments for lifting operations, identifying potential hazards and implementing control measures to mitigate risks. Equipment Maintenance: Regularly inspect and maintain slings, shackles, hooks, and other lifting gear to ensure they are in good working condition. Report any damaged or defective lifting equipment to the supervisor for replacement or repair. Skills and Qualifications: CPCS or NPORS Card (Slinger/Signaller): Essential qualification to work on UK construction sites. Safety Critical Medical Experience: Proven experience as a Slinger/Signaller, working with cranes and other lifting equipment. Knowledge of Lifting Operations: Strong understanding of lifting procedures, including load assessments, rigging techniques, and safety regulations. Health and Safety Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of UK health and safety regulations relating to lifting and construction, particularly LOLER and PUWER. Communication Skills: Ability to clearly communicate with crane operators and other team members using hand signals and radios. Teamwork: Capable of working closely with a crane operator and other site personnel to ensure safe and efficient operations. Physical Fitness: Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks. Desirable: First Aid Certification. Additional Certifications: Other plant or machinery certifications (e.g., mobile cranes, tower cranes, telehandlers). Experience with Different Types of Cranes: Familiarity with tower cranes, mobile cranes, and other lifting equipment
