We are looking to appoint to a whole time Consultant in Community Paediatric Dentistry for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This post is based at Sheffield Community and Special Care Dental Service at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital and will work at Sheffield Children's Hospital.
We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.
Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post if such a person is appointed; modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job
The appointee will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the:
1. Delivery of routine and specialist multidisciplinary care for children resident in Sheffield and surrounding areas. This includes new patient assessments, review of existing patients, provision of treatment for children with additional and complex medical needs commensurate with the knowledge and skills of a Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry. Additionally, the post will involve the provision of treatment under inhalation sedation, intravenous sedation, and general anaesthesia and attendance at multidisciplinary clinics.
2. Clinical teaching of undergraduates in both the Bachelor of Dental Sciences and the Diploma in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy programmes, including participation in undergraduate university examinations, delivering lectures and seminars, academic tutoring, and participating in interviews for entry to these programmes as required.
3. Clinical and small group teaching of postgraduates and Resident Dentists (DCTs and StRs).
4. Clinical and educational supervision and management of Resident Dentists.
5. Conduct of their clinical practice in accordance with the principles of sound clinical governance, including taking full part in the Trust's clinical governance activities.
6. Commitment to continuing medical education and appraisal.

* BDS or equivalent.
* Full registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Dental Council (GDC).
* Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
* Name on the GDC Specialist list in Paediatric Dentistry.
* Fixed Term Training Appointment in Paediatric Dentistry leading to attachment of Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship Exam FDS (Paed Dent) or equivalent for other EEA national.
* Possess an NHS primary care provider number or be eligible to obtain one PhD in relevant subject or relevant Postgraduate degree, e.g., MClinDent Med or equivalent.
* Postgraduate teaching qualification.

* Extensive experience in providing dental care for children with severe learning disabilities. Experience working with medical colleagues in holistic care of children with severe learning difficulties.
* Experience in managing the interface between primary and secondary specialist care. Interest in excellence of delivery of care under GA, inhalation sedation or other behavioural management techniques.
* Understands the function of the Community Dental Service.
