Job overview
• To abstract and analyse complex clinical information and to assign codes using ICD10 and OPCS4 and enter these codes on to the trust's system.
Main duties of the job
• To abstract and analyse complex clinical information and to assign codes using ICD10 and OPCS4 and enter these codes on to the trust's PAS system.
• Work as a member of the clinical coding team with responsibility for the coding of allocated wards.
• Where a discharge summary is incomplete, the coder will be responsible for extracting co-morbidities and other relevant supplementary information from handwritten, complex medical notes including retrieving histological results to ensure specificity and completeness of diagnostic coding.
Person specification
Essential criteria
* ACC (Accredited Clinical Coding) Qualification requiring specialist in-depth knowledge and experience.
* Knowledge of ICD10 and OPCS4 clinical coding classifications.
Desirable criteria
* Educated to degree level.
* Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
