What you’ll do at work
The Orsted UK Apprentice Programme offers an exceptional opportunity for apprentices to establish a solid foundation of skills and knowledge, paving the way for future advancement within the offshore wind industry. The program encompasses various disciplines including engineering, management, safety, and project management, providing apprentices with a well-rounded education and career development path.
During the first year of the program, based at the training centre in Scunthorpe, apprentices are introduced to the fundamentals of engineering and wind turbine technology. They become acquainted with Orsted's guiding principles of safety, teamwork, integrity, passion, and results, understanding their significance within the organization.
Upon successful completion of the first year, apprentices are assigned to one of Orsted's wind farm sites in, Birkenhead, for further training. Throughout years two to four, apprentices will progressively engage in tasks within offshore wind turbines and onshore facilities, including offshore substations. These tasks encompass working at height, collecting data, troubleshooting and repairing electrical and mechanical components, conducting routine maintenance, and recording task progress.
In addition to classroom instruction, apprentices participate in on-the-job learning experiences, which may involve assignments on various Orsted offshore wind farms and projects across the UK Therefore, flexibility and willingness to travel are essential qualities for apprentices in the program.
An expectation exists for apprentices to advance to an HNC program in year three of the program, with funding provided by the company. This demonstrates Orsted's commitment to supporting the professional development and career progression of its apprentices.
Overall, the Orsted UK Apprentice Programme offers a comprehensive and immersive learning experience, equipping apprentices with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities necessary for success in the dynamic field of offshore wind energy.
