Design Engineer – Architectural Hardware, West Midlands, to £45k.
I have a design and manufacturing client who is seeking a talented and motivated Design Engineer to join their team.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and developing innovative engineering solutions, from the initial concept through to production. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, manufacturing, and quality engineers, to ensure designs meet technical specifications, cost requirements, and product functionality.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and Development: Create detailed 2D and 3D models, technical drawings, and specifications using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
* Conceptualization: Develop creative design solutions based on product requirements, user needs, and engineering constraints.
* Prototyping: Work with prototyping teams to develop and test physical models, ensuring the design meets performance, durability, and safety standards.
* Collaboration: Coordinate with manufacturing, supply chain, and quality control teams to optimize designs for cost, manufacturability, and ease of assembly.
* Analysis: Perform engineering calculations, simulations, and tolerance studies to ensure design integrity, quality, and compliance with industry standards.
* Problem Solving: Troubleshoot design issues, perform root-cause analysis, and propose solutions to meet technical challenges.
* Documentation: Maintain design documentation, including revision history, BOMs (Bill of Materials), and testing procedures, ensuring adherence to project timelines.
* Project Management: Track progress on design projects, including time and cost estimates, project scheduling, and risk management.
Candidate requirements:
* Supporting qualifications would be ideal.
* Proven experience in product design, mechanical design of Architectural Hardware product.
* Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or CATIA).
* Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and engineering standards.
* Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) is an advantage.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
* Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred knowledge:
* Familiarity with rapid prototyping techniques, 3D printing, and CNC machining.
* Knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards (e.g., ISO, ANSI, ASTM).
