Beech Ward is a 15-bed low-secure unit for men with mental illnesses and a history of offending behaviour who are at significant risk of causing harm to others. It offers specialist psychological, psychiatric and behavioural therapies and complex specialist rehabilitation to help patients prepare for their return to life in society.
This role is the perfect opportunity for an entry-level Social Worker with a strong belief in recovery for people with severe and enduring mental health problems and a good understanding of the Care Programme Approach, care management and safeguarding.
Main duties of the job
As our new Forensic Social Worker, you would be welcomed into a safe and supportive multidisciplinary staff team that would empower and encourage you to be the best version of yourself for the benefit of those we care for.
On a day-to-day basis, the role would involve working in partnership with service-users and carers; providing assessment, care-planning and coordination of care from a social care perspective; and liaising effectively with the multidisciplinary team and with external stakeholders.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and team-working skills, as well as the ability to organise their own workload and respond to crises in a calm and sensible manner. They need a good understanding of the relevant legislation and statutory guidance, including safeguarding, and must be prepared to model and promote the Trust's values at all times.
Job responsibilities
As Forensic Social Worker on Beech Ward, your responsibilities would include:
* Being an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team, providing high quality social care services to service-users and carers.
* Providing assessment, care-planning and coordination of care from a social care perspective, contributing to multi-disciplinary team meetings, ward rounds, CPAs, clinical treatment reviews, and other key meetings.
* Delivering recovery-focused care and support to service-users and their carers that is focused on the principles of choice, control, and independence, as well as ensuring safety.
* Complying with both child and adult safeguarding practice in line with current policy, including following up safeguarding referrals and child visit requests.
* Liaising and negotiating with other agencies including the Ministry of Justice, Police, Childrens Services, Carers Networks, and other key stakeholders.
You must be educated to degree level, have an appropriate social work qualification, and be registered with Social Work England. You must have knowledge of the key relevant legislation and policies, including safeguarding, as well as experience of care-planning, working with service-users and carers, and working collaboratively. Experience of working in an integrated health and social care setting would be an advantage.
