Job overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Research Nurse to join the Research Nursing staff in our developing Research and Innovation delivery team. As part of the team carrying out clinical procedures, you will contribute to the assessment and management of the care pathways for patients and carers participating in clinical studies. You will undertake recruitment, education, and monitoring of trial patients and the collection and documentation of accurate data with a focus on increasing the number of patients participating in clinical studies at Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust.
Deploying specialist knowledge and previous experience in clinical research, you will form a key part of the Research & Innovation team, contributing to the efficient setup and delivery of research within the Trust.
Main duties of the job
1. Working as part of a MDT to assist in the management of clinical trial patients, maintaining effective communication with patients, carers & professionals to ensure high-quality service delivery.
2. Managing & overseeing a portfolio of research studies across various disease sites.
3. Training & assessing research staff as competent in line with the research competencies framework, acting as a resource & role model for all aspects of research clinical practice to optimise patient care & clinical practice.
4. Use relevant clinical knowledge to identify patients suitable for clinical research using inclusion and exclusion criteria and utilising patient records, visiting clinics and wards & outpatients.
5. Carry out physical assessments, take blood/urine samples & process according to specific research protocol.
6. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of treatment options, treatment side effects & disease processes to support patients in making an informed choice.
7. Provide day-to-day supervision for band 5 research nurses/research officers within the research team, with responsible for teaching & delivering core training on competencies within research delivery.

Qualifications
* Registered Nurse – Current registration with NMC.
* Evidence of continued professional development.
* Specialist knowledge of research legislation, Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and National Framework or equivalent.
* Demonstrable knowledge and experience of Mental Health Services.
* Knowledge of clinical and research terminology.
* Ability to practice within the scope of the NMC professional code.

* Evidence of previous patient/client and Multi-Disciplinary Team contact within work environment.
