An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional and inspirational candidate to lead our vibrant Music department at Sydenham High School from January 2025.
We are seeking to appoint an accomplished musician with energy and vision to lead our Music Department through to the next stage of its development. A proven track-record in leadership is desirable, but not essential, and the ideal candidate must be driven by a firm ambition to ensure that Music is central to the life of the School. The Director of Music will be responsible for the strategic direction of the department, both academically and from an enrichment perspective, and the successful candidate will have a genuine passion for Music, providing and facilitating opportunities for girls to participate in the musical life of the school, as well as developing elite musicians.
Our pupils enjoy participating in a diverse range of enrichment activities inclusive of Chamber Choir, Senior Choir, String Ensemble, Piano Trios, Flute Ensemble, Jazz Band, Samba Band and many more; the successful candidate would continue to lead and develop the extensive enrichment provision and performance calendar across the school year. Instrumental lessons are well attended by many students across 18 instrumental disciplines and the visiting music teaching staff are dedicated and talented musicians who are keen to be involved in the wider musical life of the school. The department has its own purpose-built accommodation and is endowed with an impressive Recital Hall. As Director of Music, the right candidate will play a pivotal role in continuing to build the reputation and profile of Music at Sydenham High School, to help ensure that it continues to be a first choice for parents and girls in the area.
The ideal starting date is January 2025 but we will consider April 2025 for the right candidate.
Starting salary will depend on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package and a strong professional development programme. These benefits include:
* Access to extensive professional development opportunities
* Interest free training loans for qualifications
* Generous pension schemes
* Employee Assistance Programme
* Cycle to work scheme
* Free school lunches
* A discount of up to 50% on fees for children at GDST schools
* Financial guidance and support
* Retail and lifestyle discounts
* 30 days annual leave for full-time support staff
