An exciting opportunity has arisen at Batsford for a Senior Commissioning Editor to develop our list of illustrated non-fiction titles.
Established in 1843, Batsford is one of the oldest independent trade publishers in the UK. For nearly two hundred years we have excelled in publishing beautiful, well-designed books that encourage and celebrate art, culture and creativity. We publish across many different subject areas including art, craft, design, fashion, poetry, culture, chess and architecture.
We are looking for an experienced commissioning editor to join our creative team and lead our expansion into contemporary new growth areas. Based in our central London offices, you will work closely with the managing director, publishing manager and editorial team to commission and publish 10–12 titles per year. You will be a commercially astute, strategic and creative editor, with three or more years’ experience in commissioning illustrated books, who is keen to own their own list, brave enough to break new ground and publish dynamically in areas of lifestyle, pop culture, personal growth, reference, interiors and design.
Key responsibilities include:
* Strategically building a list of originality, character and presence
* Identifying market trends and establishing a network of contacts in key areas
* Working with our in-house design team to take titles from concept to publication
* Collaborating and negotiating with authors and agents to produce impressive work
* Communicating persuasively and effectively with internal and external stakeholders
* Collaborating with colleagues to successfully transform ideas into bestsellers
Full or part-time, working 3 days a week in the office.
