Clinical Coding Lead/Senior Clinical Coder

South Tees NHS Hospitals Foundation Trust is currently seeking 2 Full time Clinical Coding Team Lead (Band 5) and Senior Clinical Coder (Band 4) positions to be based at the James Cook University Hospital Site in Middlesbrough, with the requirement to travel to the Friarage site in Northallerton when necessary.
The Trust's Clinical Coding Department is responsible for translating medical terminology and clinical data, as documented by clinicians, into a nationally and internationally recognized coded format that describes the patient's diagnoses, treatment, or reasons for seeking medical attention.
Main Duties of the Job
Our Clinical Coding Department is evolving to meet the increasing demands of the NHS and support the Trust's business activities.
Clinical Coder Role: This challenging position requires extensive training, which will be provided. An understanding of anatomy and physiology and familiarity with clinical language are desired.
Senior Coder Role: The post holder must have passed their National Clinical Coding Standards Course. Training and support will be provided at the specialty level where required, and the individual will be encouraged to undertake the ACC coding accreditation.
Clinical Coding Lead: The post holder must have passed their ACC Examination to become an accredited Clinical Coder. Support will be provided at the specialty level where required, and the individual is expected to assist with mentoring and training less experienced staff.
All individuals will possess knowledge of computers, coding procedures & conventions, and medical terminology, anatomical and physiological terms acquired through work-based training.
Although the post will be primarily based at one of the Trust's two hospitals, you may occasionally be required to work at the Trust's other site.

Person Specification
Qualifications Band 5
* A minimum of 3 GCSE (or equivalent) passes (to include Biology, Maths, and English)
* IHRIM ACC Qualification (NVQ level 3 equivalent)
* Successful completion of on-the-job training including a 21-day clinical coding standards course and 3 yearly refresher courses.
Knowledge
* Extensive knowledge of Clinical and Medical Terminology
* In-depth knowledge of ICD10 & OPCS4 classifications and their associated standards
* In-depth knowledge of anatomical & physiological terms
* Good keyboard skills and confidence in inputting data using an encoder
* Knowledge of the importance of HRGs
Experience
* Extensive coding experience within an acute NHS Trust
* Significant experience of working to strict deadlines
* Extensive experience of working with computers and NHS PAS systems
Qualifications Band 4
* A minimum of 3 GCSE (or equivalent) passes (to include Biology, Maths, and English)
* Successful completion of on-the-job training including a 21-day clinical coding standards course (or equivalent experience) and 3 yearly refresher courses.
