Job summary
We are looking for a Band 6 Senior Audiologist with ERA/ABR experience.
The role will include working with both adults and children. The post holder will deliver a consistent skilled performance of a broad range of more complex, precision work or activities, and specialist areas. The audiologist will be expected to carry out all aspects of clinical audiology using a range of test equipment and with a high degree of clinical autonomy. The Audiologist will be expected to deal with sensitive and emotive subjects with empathy and have good counselling skills. Overcoming communication and motivational barriers to treatment with non-routine patients in all areas of Audiology.
At this level the audiologist should have acquired organisational, communication and leadership skills and be able to work autonomously within the team. They will take responsibility for aspects of the day to day running of the service in the absence of the Audiology Clinical Lead.
At this level the Audiologist is expected to be involved in personnel training and management. Training responsibilities will include the training of other medical professions, including members of the medical profession.
In addition to the duties listed below, the audiologist must maintain continuous professional development.
Part-time hours will be considered.
Main duties of the job
In addition to the minimum duties of all lower grade Audiologists and Assistant Audiologists, the Senior will:
Supervise the work of trainee and assistant Audiologists and provide guidance and support in audiological techniques to trainees studying for professional examinations
Perform more advanced test procedures including ERA testing.
Assessment of patients with hearing difficulties who struggle with routine hearing tests.
Carry out aural rehabilitation on patients with additional special needs other than hearing loss
Perform tests on young children and assist in auditory rehabilitation programmes for young children
Carry out direct referral procedures, including the specialist under 50 Direct referrals.
Select, fit and exchange non standard hearing aids to children
Assessment fitting and evaluation of Bone Anchored Hearing Aids
Ensure and co-ordinate the maintenance and calibration of audiological equipment
To participate in the recruitment and selection of staff and be involved in staff discipline as necessary.
Carry out any other duties as may be discussed and agreed with the line manager

Additional Principle Responsibilities:
Assist with recording and maintaining all necessary statistical information required within the department.
Maintain a close liaison with medical staff and other services to ensure the effectiveness of Audiology provision.
Personnel
Be involved in induction/orientation programme of all new staff.
Attend relevant Department/Directorate meetings.
Participate in performance review annually.
Adherence to all Trust policies relevant to the department.
Ensure that protocols and procedures are available and regularly reviewed for all clinical aspects of audiology.
Education
Maintain own professional standards through registration and CPD, by attending relevant study sessions, maintaining a professional portfolio for assessment and reporting back to staff in the department.
Will develop the clinical skills of more junior members of staff
Supervision and close involvement in the training and work of student grades.
Research prepare and deliver educational training to departmental staff and other teams both internal and external to the Trust
Take a key role in co-ordinating the planning of training programmes and placements for the department.
Development and monitoring of any future new development and techniques.
Be involved with professionals/academic organisations in evaluating current techniques and evidence base.

As the department is a recognised training centre for the national BSc Audiology training modules the post holder is expected to participate actively in the training of these students to a clinically appropriate level.
The successful applicant is expected to cover a clinical workload in both adult and paediatric clinics. In particular where the majority of patients have either complex or severe sensory rehabilitation problems or multiple difficulties.
