ROLE OVERVIEW
The Senior Graphic Designer is an integral part of the RLSS UK team and is responsible for managing a Design Executive to fulfil the creative requirements across the organisation, supporting the delivery of the organisation’s objectives relating to the strategic framework. This is a pivotal role, working closely with the Head of Commercial Marketing and PR, Head of Charity Communications and Head of Qualification Development to create designs that not only communicate who we are but deliver our messages in the most impactful way possible so that they resonate, inspire, inform, and captivate our target audiences.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Design
* Creation of design work relating to marketing new and existing commercial and charity products, campaigns, and services.
* Creation of designs and finished artwork for RLSS UK’s publications, manuals, training resources, and marketing materials.
* Creation of the RLSS UK’s bi-annual magazine – Lifesavers – including:
o Designing compelling magazine features and publication covers.
o Developing and maintaining templates, processes, and production procedures to ensure efficient workflows and timely delivery.
o Preparing magazines technically for print.
* Creation of designs and finished artwork for marketing and sales materials/tools.
* Line management responsibility for a Design Executive, including performance and development, assigning day-to-day tasks and projects, and providing guidance and support.
* Support the Commercial, Charity and Corporate teams with ad-hoc design work as required.
* Design all materials in line with RLSS UK brand guidelines.
* Oversee the RLSS UK’s brand and sub-brands, ensuring consistency and correct use.
* Periodically review RLSS UK brand and brand guidelines to ensure they progress according to the organisation’s needs.
* Support the Commercial and Charity teams with email and website banner creation.
* Support the Commercial and Charity teams’ e-newsletters.
General
* At all times, demonstrate and uphold the Society’s values and behavioural standards.
* Ensure compliance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 by complying with internal information governance policies and maintaining up-to-date documentation as part of RLSS UK’s compliance programme.
* Proactively participate in the Society’s equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives and training to promote a culture of respect and inclusion for all staff and customers.
KEY TASKS
Support the Commercial Team with:
* Creation of manuals, technical documents, certificates, and accompanying marketing materials.
* Creation of logos, identification marks/icons, infographics, and design concepts.
* Design and update qualifications and award candidates and trainer assessor marketing resources.
* Support the marketing teams by creating updated graphics for the website, as required.
* Design digital adverts, banners, and social media graphics.
* Design printed resources, including proposals, contracts, leaflets, factsheets, advertisements, posters, and banners.
* Design of e-newsletters.
* Design for targeted e-mails and e-newsletters.
* Liaise with designers for design work completed by external providers.
* Liaise with external printers for short-run literature, pull-up banners, etc.
* Design of printed merchandise for sale on RLSS UK Shop, i.e., event T-shirts, clipboards.
* Production of RLSS UK’s annual report.
Support the Charity Team with:
* Creation of the RLSS UK’s bi-annual magazine - Lifesavers.
* Creation of logos, identification marks/icons, design concepts.
* Designed digital and print design assets for the Charity team’s main campaigns, assisting with concepts to reach a fresh audience.
* Design of e-newsletters.
* Design and updates for community award candidate and instructor marketing resources.
* Create engaging visual and digital content to share across all social media channels.
* Support the Marketing teams by creating updated graphics for the website, as required.
* Design of all fundraising, event, membership, and corporate materials.
* Design of dual-branded materials for partnership arrangements.
* Liaise with designers for design work completed by external providers.
* Liaise with external printers as required for short-run literature, pull-up banners, etc.
* Design of printed merchandise and branded clothing, such as event T-shirts, leisurewear, and Teemill's range.
* Design of event programmes, i.e. Honours, Speeds, Nationals.
* Design of annual reports, i.e., National Drowning Report, Impact.
* Updating illustrations of previously created characters and creating new characters aligned with diversity and inclusion for Drowning Prevention Week (DPW) and other charity campaigns.
* Animation of characters and scenes for Drowning Prevention Week and other charity campaigns.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Relevant Experience, Skills, and/or Aptitudes
* Design - creative flair and excellent execution across brand and print, including magazines, publications and digital projects.
* Accuracy - an eye for detail and the ability to spot potential problems or improvements.
* Creative thinking - to devise original and exciting visual concepts.
* Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks are essential. Effective time management is also essential as there is a regular need to work on multiple projects concurrently to differing deadlines.
* Good understanding of the application of design across various digital and social platforms.
* Excellent teamwork skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues.
* Willingness to keep updated on industry developments.
* Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
* Ability to create illustrations that follow the current brand concept.
* Strong knowledge of presentation design and experience in crafting visually engaging master presentations, partner pitches, and custom slides that align with brand guidelines.
* Degree-level qualification or equivalent industry experience in a busy in-house design function or as a freelance designer.
Desirable Relevant Experience, Skills, and/or Aptitudes
* Knowledge and understanding of RLSS UK.
* Demonstrate proficiency/expert level in PowerPoint, including use of multiple masters, colour themes, animations, actions, and videos and building templates.
* Experience in animation and video editing software, e.g., Adobe After Effects, Premier Pro or similar.
