WELCOMING YOU TO THE TEAM
The Tender & Project Purchasing team is a diverse and multicultural team with team members in Norway, UK, France and USA. The team is responsible for managing and coordinating all purchasing related activities respecting Nexans purchasing procedures throughout the lifetime of the tenders and projects.
The UK Team is a unit within the Tender & Project Purchasing team, specifically supporting projects with final client delivery in the UK. The workplace is in Edinburgh UK with Oslo, Norway and you will be reporting to the Purchasing Team Lead for the UK Team.
Nexans have secured two significant projects in the UK between 2024 and 2028 which will require Nexans to manufacture and install export cables, as well as perform a number of offshore marine and onshore civils related subcontract packages. The management of these subcontract packages from preparation of RFQs through to award will be the responsibility of Tender and Project Purchasing Manager. The role will also require the procurement and administration of other minor goods and services to meet Project requirements.
GETTING A FLYING START
To get a flying start as Purchaser you should ideally have a Degree in Quantity Surveying Engineering/Business or Supply Chain, 7+ years in project purchasing work experience in the renewables, energy or oil/gas sector. You are ambitious, have the ability to multi task, prioritize task, are an effective communicator and efficient at executing tasks.
HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT
You will be delegated and fully responsible for all project purchasing activities within a specific key tender/execution project or projects while ensuring and supporting company objectives. This role goes beyond traditional purchasing roles, with a level of commercial management and contractual awareness also required. You will boost your impact by actively promoting Quality and HSE.
YOUR STARTING POINT
1. Fluent in English; additional languages such Norwegian, French, German, Spanish and Italian would be an advantage.
2. Degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Business or Supply Chain.
3. Extensive experience from relevant positions may compensate for formal education.
4. Minimum 7 years of experience in Procurement / Category Management / Supply Chain / Commercial Management with proven records of fruitful negotiations or commercial achievements.
5. Experience with a variety of forms of contract is required such as NEC, FIDIC, LOGIC and BIMCO.
6. Curious, willing to understand the purchasing technical need to a sufficient level to discuss and challenge suppliers.
7. Appetite to negotiate with suppliers / Extensive Negotiation skills (LRN, e-auction, negotiation strategies, physical auctions…).
8. Knowledge of various sourcing tactics and strategies.
9. Team player / Organised / Ability to coordinate many stakeholders and keep good track of discussions.
10. Strong commercial & Proactive mindset.
11. Ability to communicate and search for information.
12. Ability to develop a network both inside the company and externally.
13. High working capacity and resistant to some high pressure periods.
14. Ability to multitask and prioritize.
15. Experience with SAP.
16. BI & Ariba knowledge is an advantage.

PRE-SUBCONTRACT AWARD KEY DUTIES
1. Develop and maintain the Procurement Plan and Procurement Schedule.
2. Prepare RFQ packages, with particular focus on the Scope of Work.
3. Align the RFQ documentation with the main Contract obligations.
4. Evaluate, negotiate and award packages for both marine and civils packages.
5. Seek management approval and award packages.
6. Raise and revise the required POs etc in SAP.
YOUR PEERS
Key to a successful project is positive relationships with your peers. In this role you will work closely with the Package Manager who will be the technical and operational focal point for the package, along with the Contracts Managers who will provide support on contractual matters as required, although a level of contractual knowledge will be expected from the Tender and Project Purchasing Manager.
