We have a fixed term vacancy in our dynamic and innovative team for a Band 7 SLT to cover general medical, surgery, neurology (excluding acute stroke) and critical care in addition to videofluoroscopy clinics. Applicants looking for up to 22.5 hours should apply as wte up to 0.6 will be considered.
You would be joining a well-established, supportive and progressive team who encourage staff and service development. Excellent opportunities for CPD and supervision are provided. This will include support, if required, to gain MBSImp certification and participation in videofluoroscopy clinics. In addition, you will be involved in service improvement to expand the use of FEES.
Audit and research is actively encouraged with the SLT team currently involved in research trials including Pharyngeal Electrical Stimulation (PhEAST). Support has also been given to members of the team to achieve their Associate Principle Investigator accreditation.
This role also involves team lead duties, requiring an ability to manage operationally a small team and offering the opportunity to develop your non-clinical skills.
Main duties of the job
1. Take a lead role for the Speech and Language Therapy team in Acute ward activity, providing leadership support to other SLT staff working in this speciality.
2. Case management and provision of highly specialist Speech & Language Therapy using models of best practice to assess the client's needs, and provide care planning, therapy, advice and support for the patient.
3. Leadership of the Acute Ward SLT team and working in close liaison with the team leader of the Stroke team.
4. Provide support & training to those within the ward based teams and the wider SLT team.
5. Lead role in the Videofluoroscopy service upon completion of MBSImP competencies, with support from other MBSImP competent therapists.
6. Take a significant role in developing an SLT led FEES service.
7. Play a key role in Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) discussions for complex nutrition cases and the Tracheostomy MDT.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in Speech & Language Therapy
* HCPC registration
* Post graduate dysphagia accreditation or equivalent
* Member of RCSLT
* MBSImp Certified
Experience
* Competent in the independent assessment, treatment and management of highly complex communication and swallowing disorders with adults
* Experienced in the delivery of training to others
* Able to assess and manage patients with a tracheostomy tube
* Experience in developing protocols and guidelines
* Highly developed auditory and perceptual discriminatory skills
* Video fluoroscopy and FEES competencies
Knowledge
* Established knowledge of a range of assessment tools and interventions
* In depth knowledge of RCSLT guidelines and policies
* Clear understanding of the principles of clinical governance/audit to monitor and improve service
* Knowledge of service improvement techniques
Skills
* Ability to give highly specialised advice to the MDT in a range of formats
* Well developed negotiation and motivational communication skills
* Ability to work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team
* Able to make decisions involving complex facts / situations often under pressure
* Able to analyse and interpret video fluoroscopy
* Data collection & analysis skills
