An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, flexible and well-organised individual to join our friendly Oncology team as Support Medical Secretary.
The successful applicant will require previous Medical Secretary experience in a healthcare environment and have excellent organisational and communication skills. You will be able to cope well under pressure and have a good understanding of the patient pathway. You should enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team and be confident liaising with patients, medical staff, general practitioners and referring hospitals.
The post holder will be expected to organise their workload and duties accordingly, in such a way to make a direct and positive contribution to the service, exercising initiative and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role will be to provide support to the Senior Medical Secretaries within the department. Day to day responsibilities will include the typing of clinical correspondence, investigations etc. You will also assist colleagues during in times of leave/sickness.
Job responsibilities
Being an important part of the Medical Secretarial team in Oncology, you will play an essential role in providing support to the Senior Medical Secretaries and covering in their absence. The ability to work under pressure whilst remaining calm is essential.
The role of Support Medical Secretary is to provide full administration and secretarial support to the clinical team. To maintain a high standard of service to meet patient needs, producing clinical correspondence.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good standard of education including GCSE English and Maths
* RSA II audio typing or equivalent
* Medical secretary AMSPAR or equivalent experience
Experience
* Familiar with medical terminology
* Previous experience as a medical, relief, support or trainee secretary
* Commitment to and understanding of confidentiality
* Understanding of data protection
Skills
* Good team player
* Good communication and organisational skills
* Ability to use Speech Report
