Job summary London Central and West Urgent Care Collaborative(LCW) has been selected as preferred provider to deliver the GP Out of Hoursservice to patients in inner North West London Since 1993. The GP Out of hours service provides care forpatients when their normal GP surgery is closed. The service is not intended to replace normalGP services, but deals with urgent problems that cannot wait until the GPsurgery reopens. The GP Out of hoursservice will be accessed through the NHS 111 service in most instances, howevercertain patients including those with longterm or terminal illnesses maycontact the service directly through a Single Point of Access telephone number,depending on the area in which they reside. The GP Out of hours service will provide GP telephone triage, referralto Primary Care Centres and a Home visiting service. The service will operate from both St CharlesCentre for Health & Wellbeing and Martin House and as such, staff may berequired to work from either location. Main duties of the job To deliver an effective and competent level ofdriving and support for Clinical Staffvisiting patients in their homes in respect of the Out of hours service. To provide accurate documentation andappropriate reports following set policies and procedures at all times. Itis the drivers responsibility to do minor vehicle servicing i.e. change ofbrake, sidelight and headlight bulbs, wiper blades, change wheel if flattyre. Replenish oil, water, brakefluid,screenwash. 3. Itis the responsibility of the driver to report any faults to the Operations Supervisoras per Vehicle log sheet/written protocols. 4. Thedriver is required to maintain all log sheets at all times, accuratelyrecording journeys, mileage and priorities of calls. 5. Inthe event of a breakdown/accident, the driver must follow procedures perwritten protocols. 6. Allaccidents must be reported immediately to on-call manager as per protocol. 7. Thedriver must return the vehicle to a designated parking space on return to baseand complete Vehicle log sheet/checks as per protocol. Drivingduties 1. Itis a legal requirement that whilst driving the postholder will wear a seatbeltat all times and must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs whilst onshift. It is also a legal requirementthat the driver does not use the mobile phone whilst driving. 2. Thedriver will be required to collect passengers, usually doctors, on occasionsfrom other sites and drive them to their destinations around the geographicalareas of LCW Out of Hours service. 3. Waitand return the passengers to their base or alternative destination. The driver will be required to carry medicalequipment for the doctor and it is the drivers responsibility to return anyitems as per checklist back to base. 4. TheDriver will act as an escort to the clinician, as requested to do so andaccompany the clinician into the patients home. The Driver will also be required to respondto any urgent request by the clinician for equipment or assistance. At times the Driver may be requested tocontact Main base or urgent ambulance services at the request of the clinician. 5. Thedriver will also be required to collect and deliver ad-hoc items, such aspackages, pharmaceuticals etc. 6. Itis the drivers responsibility to find the most appropriate route for alljourneys, with use of maps and other information available. 7. Parkingrestrictions must be obeyed at all times. Drivers must ensure that all aspects of the Highway code must be obeyedat all time, in particular traffic signals and speed limits. 8. Inrespect of any traffic accident involving the vehicle, to complete the trafficaccident report before leaving the site of the accident and to complete reportimmediately on return to base. Notification must be given to the relevant manager immediately. Failure to report any accident willconstitute gross misconduct. 9. Toreport any driving endorsements and change of personal details immediately tothe Operations Supervisor. It is thedrivers responsibility to report any changes in their health and fitness,which may affect their performance as a driver. It is also a requirement that the driver attends annual health checks atthe Occupational Health Department. 10. It is expected thatdrivers must maintain regular contact with the base by whichever communicationsmedium available in the car. Driversmust confirm receipt of data transferred to the vehicle with the base. Drivers must clear with thedespatcher/manager before returning the vehicle to base. 11. Drivers will berequired to support despatcher/telephonist with clerical/administration work. 12. Drivers will beassessed and cross-trained to cover reception/ telephones/despatch following ashort induction period. 13.
