The System Administrator (Standing Naval Forces) will be involved in the transfer, setup, and operation of deployed Communication and Information Systems (CIS) installations during the operational handover of NATO Standing Naval Forces (SNF) flagships. This role includes providing remote support to flagships from participating nations and assisting the Core Section Head with day-to-day system administration tasks.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
* CIS Installation & Transfer Support: Participate in the setup and operational handover of communication systems on NATO flagships, ensuring smooth integration and functionality.
* Remote Support to Flagships: Provide remote troubleshooting and technical assistance to flagships in the Standing Naval Forces.
* System Administration (SA) Support:
o Manage hardware and software related to MS Windows Server, including Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP servers.
o Perform system administration on VMware Virtualization technology (installation, troubleshooting of ESX hosts, and deployment).
o Assist with SAN administration, including regular backup of systems as per SLAs and SOPs.
o Ensure all technical and service documentation is maintained, accurate, and up-to-date.
* Liaison: Maintain close coordination with technicians and engineers within the CSU and the wider NCI Agency to ensure effective system support.
Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
* VMware Virtualization: Knowledge and practical experience in configuring, upgrading, and deploying VMware, including VCSA configuration and ESX host upgrades.
* iSCSI Target Configuration: Experience in configuring iSCSI targets for virtualized environments.
* Microsoft Server Technologies: Solid experience with Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange.
* ITIL Knowledge: Understanding of ITIL IT service management, including incident and problem management.
* Technical Documentation & Communication: Ability to write clear technical documentation and user guides. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
* Problem Solving: Ability to analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions, using a rigorous and logical approach to problem resolution.
* Customer Focus: Maintain high standards for quality and customer satisfaction. Establish and maintain effective customer relationships.
* Physical Requirements: Ability to lift items up to 25kg and work in confined spaces on deployed warships.
Specific Working Conditions:
* Deployable Role: The individual must be able to deploy on short notice to resolve critical system failures, particularly on virtualized systems.
* Physical and Medical Requirements: The role requires physical work on deployed warships and access to small spaces, with the individual required to have individual medical and personal liability cover.
