An exciting opportunity has arisen to support medicines optimisation in Primary Care Networks (PCNs) in Welwyn Garden City. We are recruiting for a 12-month, fixed-term maternity cover, full-time Band 8a Senior Pharmacist - Primary Care Networks role.
In line with the NHS Long Term Plan, Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust is providing clinical pharmacy services to PCNs in the local area. This is a unique opportunity for pharmacists to experience work in the rapidly expanding area of primary care, whilst retaining the support, benefits, and familiarity of employment in an NHS organisation.
The Senior Pharmacist will provide expert input to GP surgeries in a PCN, the patients they cover, and locality services to achieve improvement in the quality and cost-effectiveness of prescribing and achieve local and national health initiatives.
Utilising their prescribing qualification, the role will support the medication needs of the patients as well as educate other healthcare professionals on prescribing and the effective use of medicines.
The Senior Pharmacist will undertake clinical medication reviews and patient-facing clinics, working in partnership with the patient’s GP practice, nurses, care homes, community pharmacists, secondary care, and the local authority. The successful applicant will need to be self-motivated and able to work independently, whilst also integrating into a well-established team. You will have excellent organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills together with a good working knowledge of primary care and the challenges facing medicines management in the new era.

The successful candidate must have experience of working and influencing senior clinicians and have a proven track record of successful implementation of Medicines Optimisation projects. Primary Care sector experience is a plus. You will need to have a combination of at least five years post-registration experience, a clinical diploma, and a prescribing qualification. You will also need a great deal of self-motivation, sound clinical knowledge, and computer literacy.
The role will also be supported by a full training package, according to needs.

A full valid driving licence and access to a car to use regularly for business purposes is essential (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).
In addition to the basic salary, this post attracts a High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of basic salary subject to a maximum payment of £1,845 per annum (pro rata where applicable) if based in Welwyn Garden City.
Vaccination as a Condition of Deployment (VCOD) for Healthcare Workers - Candidates offered a role with Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust, who are aged 18 and over and who will have direct, face-to-face contact with service users as part of their role will be required to evidence that they have received a complete course of an approved COVID-19 vaccine, subject to limited exceptions, by no later than 1 April 2022.

* Registration with the GPhC.
