We support clients across renewable energy, data centres, and Power-to-X sectors in understanding and accessing the UK electrical grid. Our expertise enables projects to navigate complex grid connection processes, optimise network design, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
The role
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Grid Engineer to join our expert team, supporting clients in renewable energy, data centres, and Power-to-X industries. You will play a key role in helping clients understand the UK electrical grid, navigate grid connection processes, and deliver technical solutions that ensure successful project integration.
This role can be based in any of our UK offices and offers the opportunity to work on a hybrid basis.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead grid connection feasibility studies, including technical and regulatory assessments.
2. Provide expert advice on UK grid regulations, including the Grid Code, CUSC, and Distribution Codes.
3. Develop and manage grid connection applications for major energy and infrastructure projects.
4. Liaise with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), National Grid ESO, and other stakeholders to secure grid access.
5. Conduct grid impact assessments and power system studies (e.g., load flow, fault level, dynamic stability).
6. Support clients in negotiating connection agreements and overcoming grid constraints.
7. Contribute to the design and optimisation of electrical infrastructure, ensuring compliance with UK grid standards.
8. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical knowledge-sharing within the team.

About you
You will have:
* Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
* Extensive experience in UK grid connections, power systems, or electrical infrastructure design.
* Strong knowledge of transmission and distribution networks, including regulatory frameworks.
* Proficiency in power system analysis tools (e.g., PowerFactory, PSSE, ETAP).
* Proven ability to engage with key stakeholders such as DNOs, NGESO, Ofgem, and developers.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work on complex grid connection challenges.
* Strong communication and leadership skills.
Although not essential, the below would also strengthen your application:
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards professional registration.
* Experience with battery storage, hydrogen, or large-scale renewables integration.
