Axcis Education are seeking a full time SEND Learning Support Assistant to work in a college with pupils in KS4. All pupils have a range of additional needs including complex needs, sensory impairments, Down syndrome, Autism, and SEMH. The classes are organized by needs and ages, with no more than 10 pupils per class.
The college is part of their primary school, which is in a different building. The primary school prepares students for their transition from school to college at the end of Key Stage 2. During their time at the college, students continue their education focusing on core National Curriculum and Foundation subjects. They also participate in activities such as travel training and home life skills. In addition, students can gain work experience, providing them with an understanding of their next steps in life by the time they reach Sixth Form.
The Key Stage 5 (Post 16 Education) curriculum is linked to the ‘Preparing for Adulthood’ Framework, with student outcomes centered around Education and Employment, Independence, Community Inclusion, and Health. There is also a Careers Programme in place.
The ideal candidate must have experience working with children or adults with additional needs and should know how to communicate effectively, adapt their teaching methods, and be resilient and patient. You will be working in a small class with mixed abilities. Most pupils are working at a lower ability, but some are working towards the national curriculum. You must be confident working with challenging behavior and not be fazed by this.
The role is full time, working Monday – Friday, 8:45 to 3:30. We also have a part-time role at the college, working 3 days a week: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. There is parking on site, and the college is located in the Exeter, EX1 area. We pay a daily rate of £85 - £90 per day. The school cares about their support staff, offering training plans to grow your confidence in the role.
