About the role
We are looking for a new Community Highways Officer to join our Highways Service.
The Community Highways Officer sits within the Highways Operations Team and is responsible for a wide range of services that include highways inspections, dealing with enquiries from the public, carrying out enforcement on skips, scaffolds, hedges, and private trees alongside the highway, along with giving recommendations for local drainage improvements within their own given area.
The Community Highways Team comprises four area teams that are led by four Community Highways Team Leaders.
What you can expect to be doing:
Based in one of the local highways depots nestled within the beautiful Dorset countryside, this role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute towards creating a greater place to live, work, and visit, and also helping towards maintaining a safe and effective highways network.
You will work collaboratively with your community highways colleagues, assisting other community teams where required to ensure tight time scales are met.
Dorset Council offers a wide range of training and support and embraces a hybrid working culture that allows a mix of home and office working. Occasionally, you may be required to attend meetings out of hours, either in person or online.
About you:
Educated to HNC/HND level is desirable but not essential. You should have experience in Local Government processes and stakeholder engagement. You should have a good working knowledge of a range of software applications such as Confirm (data collection tool), emails, spreadsheets, etc., along with the use of computers and tablets where appropriate. You should have good communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to deliver stand-up presentations to groups of Parish and Town Council representatives.

This is a full-time post at 37 hours per week.
