DEPARTMENT: Marketing and Communications
CONTRACT: Full-time (35 hours per week). Some matchday (weekend) work will be required.
LOCATION: cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens, Northampton, NN5 5BG. Travel as required to fulfil duties.
OVERVIEW:
Northampton Saints are offering the opportunity for a creative, confident and enthusiastic individual to join the Club’s Marketing and Communications department on a full-time basis. This is an exciting position for an individual to support the communications strategy of Northampton Saints and Loughborough Lightning, also creating written and digital content to tell the teams’ stories and helping to grow and engage our audience. A background in journalism and/or content creation would be beneficial.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Support the communications and media strategy of Northampton Saints and Loughborough Lightning, helping to protect and enhance the reputation of the two clubs.
2. Assist with media support for the first team, women’s, under-18s and wheelchair rugby sides on matchdays as required.
3. Assist in the production of a range of external communications for the Club, producing consistency in tone of voice and delivery of our brand.
4. Proactively find stories to promote Northampton Saints and Loughborough Lightning, planning and delivering written and digital content to elevate the Club’s website, app, matchday programme, and social media channels.
5. Support delivery of Club’s PR activities (media releases, photocalls, events etc) and assist with filming/editing where required.
6. Build and maintain effective professional relationships with the media and other key stakeholders in rugby, helping to facilitate their matchday and non-matchday requirements during the season to ensure Northampton Saints and Loughborough Lightning are given appropriate and accurate coverage.
7. Manage and develop relationships across the Club with key figures – including players, coaching staff and senior management – to ensure media opportunities are facilitated, developed and maximised.
8. Deliver campaigns which support Saints’ overall marketing, commercial and CSR strategies – this will involve working with numerous stakeholders across the Club including Partnerships, Community, Hospitality/Events and Ticketing departments, as well as our charity, Northampton Saints Foundation.
9. Work alongside Marketing department to ensure that Club website and app runs efficiently, and that SEO optimised and is upgraded where necessary.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
1. A thorough understanding and enjoyment of rugby, and knowledge of the sport’s current landscape.
2. A passion for developing best-in-class content and communications campaigns.
3. Some journalistic experience – demonstrable copywriting skills, a sharp attention to detail, and a strong portfolio of published work.
4. Basic experience shooting/editing video or creating graphics.
5. A keen news sense and innovative/creative ideas for ways in which the Club could bring our supporters closer to our teams.
6. Evidence of producing engaging social media content, and an understanding of how to tailor content to individual platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, YouTube, etc).
7. Experience writing copy across a range of platforms – in particular for marketing materials, social media, and news websites.
8. A desire to learn fast and adapt quickly.
9. Ability to organise and work independently to tight deadlines.
10. An openness to working flexible hours outside of the traditional ‘nine to five’.
11. A full, clean UK driving license and ability to travel.
