Company Bio:
The Cocoabean Company is an established family business in Dumfries & Galloway, employing 30 staff members (increasing during holiday seasons). The business is a tourist attraction (chocolate workshops & play with a large cafe), wedding venue, and manufacturer of handmade bespoke chocolates to trade businesses & the public.
Synopsis:
Due to retirement, we are looking to appoint a Financial Controller to support the directors and take ownership of all financial aspects of the business. The successful candidate will be regarded as a key member of the leadership team, working closely with other departments and will also have responsibilities within legal, operations, and HR.
Day-to-day responsibilities:
* Sales Ledger
* Purchase Ledger
* Banking
* Bank reconciliation
* Credit control
* Prepare and file VAT
* Weekly and monthly Payroll (and PAYE returns)
* Ownership of all day-to-day finances across the business
Bigger Picture:
* Provide meaningful figures and reports to help drive business performance and decisions
* Production of revenue and profitability analysis
* Ensure compliance with all accounting standards/financial regulations
* Establish external relationships with key contacts such as auditors, bankers, solicitors, and statutory organisations such as inland revenue etc.
* Cash flow forecasting
The candidate:
* Fully qualified accountant/certification from a recognised institution (e.g. AAT equivalent)
* Experience of operating in a broad and varied finance role
* Comfortable challenging the business to improve processes
* Strong analytical judgement and confidence in decision making
* Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks effectively
* Fluent level of both spoken and written English
* Strong knowledge of Microsoft packages
* Commercially minded
* (Preferable) Strong knowledge of Sage
* (Preferable) Experience of working in an owner-managed SME environment
* (Preferable) Experience of working in a multi-faceted business
