Gallery Assistant
The role of Gallery Assistant covers a variety of duties. Whilst we wouldn’t expect one volunteer to take on the whole role, opportunities are available for those with skills and experience in the following areas:
1. Hospitality – Meeting and greeting visitors, ensuring a warm welcome.
2. Basic administration – Keeping the Gallery clean and tidy, leaflet printing, etc.
3. Communications & Marketing – Maintaining a mailing database, updating social media, etc.
4. Sales – Processing Gallery sales and recording details.
Skills
Qualifications/education required:
1. Educated to a good general standard (Essential)
Experience:
1. Working in an arts environment (paid or voluntary) (Desirable)
2. Working in a gallery (paid or voluntary) (Desirable)
3. Planning and organising events/exhibitions (Desirable)
4. Able to make decisions (Essential)
5. Working with the public (Desirable)
Aptitude/skills required for the job:
1. Communicate effectively with all audiences (Essential)
2. Attention to detail (Essential)
3. Handling valuable and precious items with due care (Essential)
4. Able to lift, move and manoeuvre awkward and heavy items when setting up and de-installing exhibitions (Essential)
5. IT literate – emails and Microsoft Word (Essential)
6. IT literate - databases and social media platforms (Desirable)
