An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Ward Sister on Ward 36 at Glenfield Hospital.
Ward 36 is a 24 bedded busy emergency admission unit for patients with hepato-biliary and pancreatic disorders, where you will have the opportunity to develop your leadership, management and clinical skills. Alongside the ward, you will also work in our triage area and support our ambulatory jaundice virtual ward.
We are looking for an experienced Band 5 nurse, who possesses excellent communication, interpersonal & recognized leadership skills with a passion for maintaining high levels of good quality patient care and patient safety.You will support the ward sister managing the team, providing clinical expertise and professionalism motivating the staff to maintain standards of exceptional care.
The role requires someone who is enthusiastic, dynamic & focused and who can drive quality initiatives forward. In return you will receive guidance & training from the senior management team to support your role development.
• You will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of our patients care.
• Participate in the effective clinical leadership and management of the ward team, which will include leadership and supervision of other healthcare professionals, carrying out all aspects of the caring process.
• You will have and develop leadership skills ensuring you are able to deputise and take charge of the ward in the absence of the Ward Manager.
• Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care, to contribute to the improvement of services and the quality of care provision to meet the needs of patients, service users and their families.
• Act as a role model, mentoring, teaching, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement and participate in the education, development and mentorship of other staff.
• In addition, you will play a key role in ensuring effective communication between patients, carers, clinical staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.
• As an effective role model, you will be involved in using your own knowledge to develop and enhance the development, skills and competence of others.
• You will have the opportunity to use specialist knowledge, skills and innovative practice to provide a high standard of care and maintain patient safety.

About the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust:
• Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and relatives / carers.
• Recognise, prioritise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
• Receive reports from team members on the progress of own patients during and at the end of each shift and for all patients when in charge.
• Facilitate effective communication and liaison with other disciplines as necessary to meet the needs of patients especially relating to ongoing care needs and discharge arrangements.
• Ensure that fully accurate, complete and contemporaneous nursing records are written and maintained for each patient in accordance with agreed policy.
• Act as a professional and clinical role model to all staff, patients, carers and the public at all times.
• Supervise the performance standards of own team members and, in the absence of the Sister / Charge Nurse, other nursing staff within the ward.
• Assist with and deputise for the Sister / Charge Nurse in the management and organisation of the ward/Clinic.
• Maximise use of clinical and staff resources, implementing best practice in patient flow, admission and discharge arrangements.
