NeoGenomics is looking for a Senior Computational Scientist who wants to continue to learn in order to allow our company to grow. This is a hybrid position with a Monday – Friday day shift onsite in Cambridge, UK.
Position Summary:
As a Senior Computational Scientist, you will be responsible for developing innovative bioinformatics algorithms and pipelines and prototyping data analysis solutions for the early R&D phase. You will interact with internal and external stakeholders to design, present, and formalize key concepts and solutions, adopting a technical lead role in the discussion, planning, execution, and interpretation of the related work.
This work will contribute to shaping novel product development at NeoGenomics for diagnostics and cancer management by interacting with diverse functional areas involved in specific projects.
Responsibilities:
1. Contribute to the development of novel methodologies and algorithms.
2. Perform computational analysis from new and custom assay prototypes (e.g., NGS-based assays).
3. Provide innovative in-silico solutions to investigate or interpret existing and novel data, using internal or external data sources.
4. Provide first implementation of Bioinformatics pipeline to aid initial product investigation.
5. Contribute to the Company's competitiveness in developing cutting-edge technology.
6. Serve as an advisor for the organization's assessment of innovative technologies in cancer diagnostics.
7. Provide expert technical guidance internally and externally to all stakeholders, including discussions with the PMO, BD, and legal departments concerning the creation and assessment of new technologies.
Experience, Education and Qualifications:
1. Significant (8+ years) experience in Bioinformatics (Essential).
2. Proficiency with scientific programming (e.g., R or Python) with a focus on solving problems and providing solutions (Essential).
3. Experience in supervising project execution for the creation of products/algorithms as computational technical lead (Essential).
4. Proven track record in creating algorithms, pipelines, or custom analytical solutions (Essential).
5. Hands-on experience with analysis and interpretation of large-scale clinical, biological/omics, or drug data sets, with a preference for NGS/genomic/transcriptomics data (Essential).
6. Demonstrated experience in developing and/or applying ML or AI models (Essential).
7. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to work independently and self-supervise (Essential).
8. Proven track record of creating best-in-class diagnostic products (Desired).
9. Experience in working with workflow management systems (e.g., Nextflow) for pipeline prototyping (Desired).
10. Experience in developing software/scripts for distributed computing, especially cloud, preferentially for computational biology applications (Desired).
11. Experience in analyzing data from diverse sequencing systems, e.g., Illumina, Ultima, Nanopore (Desired).
12. Familiarity with IP and FTO for novel method development (Desired).
