Pay Rate: up to £19.81 per hour PAYE depending on experience
Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours

Take responsibility for the provision of an efficient and effective workshop and on-site operation in accordance with the policy determined by the Waste & Transport Manager, and to undertake the full range of duties of a multi-skilled Mechanic.
Ensure high quality servicing, maintenance, and repair of all Council-owned vehicles and plant is carried out to manufacturers' specifications. Ensure that all vehicle servicing records are updated as per VOSA regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
* In close collaboration with the Waste & Transport Manager, the post holder is responsible on a day-to-day basis for the overall management of the Vehicle Workshop and associated staff.
* Fully conversant with VOSA regulations on vehicle servicing and preparation for MOT’s ensures that all works are carried out to the appropriate standards.
* Assist the Council's Transport Officer in the preparation of the fleet's annual servicing schedules.
* Repair, maintain and service vehicles, plant, and machinery of all varieties, sizes, and configurations as required to ensure compliant maintenance of the fleet.
* Provide advice & guidance to the Waste & Transport Manager in relation to vehicle purchase.
* Ensure that all transport maintenance records are kept up to date in accordance with the requirements of the Operators Licence.
* Maintain stocks of consumable materials and be responsible for purchasing replacement spare parts.
* Advise on best methods of repair and determine repair times in consultation with the Waste & Transport Manager and vehicle manufacturers’ information.
* Ensure service and repair targets are met.
Qualifications:
* City & Guilds qualified mechanic or NVQ3 in Vehicle Mechanics - desirable.
* LGV Class II Driving Licence.
Knowledge:
* Knowledge of electrics and hydraulics systems.
* Knowledge and experience of Electric Vehicles.
* Knowledge of V.O.S.A Servicing & O Licence requirements - desirable.
Experience:
* Experience of working with heavy vehicles, plant, and commercial vehicles.
* Experience of working within a mixed fleet environment.
* Experience of working with refuse and sweeping vehicles - desirable.
Skills & Abilities:
* Ability to manage and prioritise own workload and a high degree of self-motivation in order to meet targets.
* Ability to work effectively across service areas.
