University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust
We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues to join our team of acute medical consultants at Heartlands Hospital, part of University Hospitals Birmingham.
Our department includes a large acute medical unit, a newly refurbished busy SDEC, and 3 short stay wards as well as in-reach to the emergency department. We serve a diverse population within an urban conurbation. The trust is committed to tackling health inequalities and providing outstanding care to our communities.
The medical take is busy with a fascinating range of pathologies and rich in learning and teaching opportunities. We welcome applications from consultants with other specialty or research interests, and several of our substantive consultants work across other departments such as infectious diseases, endocrinology, and renal medicine. Part-time working can be considered.
Main Duties of the Job
Our Acute Medical Consultants are responsible for:
1. Oversight of the medical take in ED, MAU, and SDEC, including post-take ward rounds.
2. The care of patients admitted to acute medicine wards and will complete daily ward rounds.
3. Providing support, education, and supervision for doctors in training and Advanced Clinical Practitioners.
4. Contributing to departmental governance processes including M & M and incident reporting and reviews, as well as service development.
5. Administration related to patient care - prompt review and communication of patient results, with support from our admin team.
6. Maintaining good working relationships with the whole MDT.
