Job overview
The Children and Young People’s Service provides an integrated service for children with persistent, moderate to severe mental health concerns. We deliver a wide range of evidence-based interventions through clearly defined care pathways.
Our Mental Health pathway undertakes assessment and intervention for children and young people with complex mental health needs, including anxiety, low mood, self-harm, and trauma. Clinicians will work within a collaboratively care planned approach and should be able to work autonomously and within a multi-disciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
1. Carrying a complex caseload of young people requiring therapeutic interventions.
2. Provide training and clinical supervision/support to the wider team.
3. Attendance at multi-agency meetings and risk management group.
4. Support with transition work and audits as appropriate, linking in with parents, carers, and other partners.
Person specification
Education and Qualification
* Proven track record of post-registration clinical experience relevant to the post.
* Professional Qualification and current Professional Registration as a First Level Registered Nurse (RNMH, RMN, RNLD) or equivalent as an AHP, Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist.
* Evidence of post-registration training in clinical/psychological interventions/skills relevant to the post.
* Up-to-date knowledge/experience of relevant legislation.
* Experience working with Children's Mental Health.
* Experience of working in the community.
Skills and Competencies
* Proven ability to carry out and provide comprehensive written assessments of individuals with complex mental health needs.
* Risk Assessment and Risk Management/Safety Planning skills.
* Demonstrate an understanding of effective & appropriate treatment options including a range of evidence-based clinical approaches as identified in N.I.C.E. Guidance.
* Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Evidence of a high level of professional, organisational and leadership skills (self & others).
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience assessing and recording risk.
* Experience of independent mental health assessment and treatment.
* 12 to 24 months band 5 qualified nurse experience dependent upon service need.
* Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, NMC standards and other local and national initiatives.
